I love this thread, didn't know about "the wave" until I experienced it when I got my C6. I live in Los Angeles area and even though most people are so consumed with other things, vette owners still wave for the most part. Usually the only guys that don't wave are young guys with C5's. I still go out of my way and wave to them. The wave is something you don't experience with any other car, gotta love that. Don't get waved at when driving my Honda Accord by other accord owners..
I've only gotten a positive response from one other driver since I bought the car, a C2 owner and myself exchanged pleasentries and moved along. Not many waves from folks here in Mustang-world.
I agree with JE ZZ C6...C5 owners rarely wave! C1, C2, C3: almost always wave. C4, C5: almost never wave. C6: about 50/50. I've been waving for over 25 years and have no intentions to stop whether I get a return wave or not! It's Tradition!
A bit misleading since, in TX at least, almost all Vettes have tinted windows. Very hard to see if someone is waving unless they are going out of their way to be seen. The typical TX one finger wave is hard to see... (No its NOT the middle finger. )
I have to say that since the shape changed to the C6, the amount of waves is less, the car does not stand out as much as before. However, as a C6 owner I have to say that my eyes do pick up C6s much faster now then when I had my C4. I wave, even when I am not waved at. My wife didn't know about the wave and thought someone was trying to pick up on her when she drove the Vette the first time. I had to explain it to her.
My usual wave is the "hang loose" wave, two fingers.
I get a very low wave response ratio in the Bay Area, especially from the C4 crowd - very disappointing.
I made a left turn in front of a C4 today - my top was down, crossed right in front of the C4, waved with so much effort I noticed I drew the attention of the guy next to the C4. The C4 guy just stared out at me with a dumb look on his face. He obviously did not get the memo!
What's funny is most of the "ignored" or "missed" waves come from C6 drivers. Us C6 owners have an advantage though, when I see another vette approaching I'll flash my headlights then follow up with a wave. If any one stll misses those HID's they are blind or not paying attention.
Get waves back probably 50 - 60% of the time. But regardless of responses, we'll keep waving anyway! Maybe some folks don't know about tradition and will "get it" after a while...
I've been waving since 1998. Yesterday, during a 4 mile stretch, saw 2 vettes, older and new and got 2 waves. Good percentage. Mostly, if they see me and I see them, then we greet each other.
