If you have the manual, the park brake must be set. If and automatic, shift lever must be in Park and park brake set.
Also, make sure you have correct key fob, or that exit button programmed and is set correctly for both key fobs.
No, i don't think that's quite accurate. According to the owner's manual (I've not tried it), you should be able to unlock the doors with the unlock button on the door, even while the engine is running. 2006 owner's manual, page 2-12.
If someone needs to get out while the vehicle is running
or not in PARK (P), have the person use the power door
unlock switch. When the door is closed again, the doors
will lock either when your foot is removed from the
brake or the vehicle speed becomes faster than
8 mph (13 km/h).

Jim is right, with engine running just push the unlock button and bingo....the door can be opened.
So if you crash off a bridge into the river, you won't be able to get out of the car unless you can get the unlock button to work? Please tell me there is a manual override. I'm not trolling, I was just wondering?

That's going to be the least of your problems. You usually want to break the glass because water pressure keeps the doors shut and you have to equalize the pressure. If you don't do that pretty fast you're probably going to drown.................

Yes, there is a manual release. A lever on the floor against the side rail mid way on the door. Pass and Driver.
