APS has a pretty cool video of their test car on the dyno shooting a flame. I've seen it on the highway a couple of times when people were shifting. I think its a turbo car thing.

Didnt the car in the movie GREASE do that? My dad said his friend did that on his 58 Chrysler, I think (was many many years ago) he said they welded a spark plug on the inside of the tailpipes edge. Dont know how they gave it spark though.

You guys are a riot. I have shot fireballs before when downshifting but this must have been just a bunch of fuel built up between the shift. The car is tuned on the rich side, well damn near pig rich... Better off blowing fire out the exhaust than blowing the motor apart I guess.:o
I had a Turbo Sabb 900 Rally car that would blow flames on downshifts. This is almost always accompanied by unwanted turbo boost. It forced me to "two foot" coming out of corners and wore brakes incredibly fast. The original 911 turbos were treacherous because of this. Be careful.

I remember a C5 FRC with a Cartek X-Package (H/C) tuned by Julio that would throw flames. I remember because it threw flames on the dyno.....about 4 feet from my head. Just as the dyno operator let off the gas...BOOM *flames* Come to think of it, standing right next to the rollers while they were dynoing a 456 rwhp car wasn't the brightest idea in the world. I got a ride to and from the dyno day in that car though. Damn was that a helluva ride.
