So here is a new one. I go to start my '05 with 14,000 miles just as I have 100's of times before . I push the starter button and the entire button falls right into the dash! No unusual pressure or anything. I immediately worried if it would be possible to turn car off. I did but it is a bit difficult reaching a finger in and being able to touch the now free floating button in just the right way without pushing it further into the depths of the dash. Anyone else ever have or hear of this happening?

Yep, happend to me... I had to laugh when it did. I was able to pull it back out. Took the car to the dealer and they fixed it. Not sure if they replaced the button or not though. Fast forward 6 months later and I notice the start button now had a very fine crack in it; barely noticable... Took the beast back to the dealer and they replaced it with a new one. I think it's an 07 button cuz it says "engine" on it. Me thinks it should say "start button"

Thanks for the link to the other thread. A quick search late last night did not turn up anything but I probably just missed it . Seems to be a more common problem than I thought. Looks like a trip to the dealer is in order--if I can get it to start again. Otherwise send the truck! Not up for trying to take dash apart myself as some in other thread suggest.

You don't really need to take the dash apart. There are two torx screws that need to come out. You can fix it yourself in 10 minutes. Why would you want to have a dealer touch the car? You simply need to remove the lower dash panel below where the switch clips into as far as I've read.

Happened to me a couple of times, was able to reset the button using a very thing pocket knife blade to retrieve it. Finally took it to the dealer and they replaced the bracket (fits inside the dash area) that holds the button in place.
Dealer has Saturday hours. Went right in this morning. Service writer said it was new one on him but mechanic had obviously seen it before. Took him 5 minutes to open dash and pop it back in. Said none of the clips were broken so should be ok but suggested I use a "light touch" in the future. Hmmmmmm. What was in that one drink I had last night?

Why fix it yourself and risk screwing things up ? If it's under warranty, make the dealer come get it !
