Default differential fluid changed 2x

13000 miles 06 A6 vert and rear end is yelling at me again for 3rd time. Going in next week for new clutch packs. Anyone know is they are using a better replacement material?

I just had mine done with 15900 miles on it for the second time and it will be a wait and see. The first time was 5k miles on it.

At one time (early 2006) the fibre clutch disc where going to be replaced with carbon cltuch disc. Not sure if that occured?

Before letting the dealer disassemble your car, try adding another bottle of GM friction modifier to your diff. (part number 1052358)

This made my rear silent after 2 drain and flushes failed to solve the problem.

And yes, my car still leaves 2 very black strips of rubber when doing a burn out.

If this is truly a cure with no adverse side effects, I wonder why GM just doesn't do it. It makes sense that the extra friction modifier additive would help keep the clutches quiet, and apparently a lot of dealers had been simply dumping in extra additive anyway... even though not specificed by GM in the TSB. I'd think there would be a good reason that GM would not specify the use of extra additive... because it would be SO much cheaper and easier for them to go this route as opposed to changing clutch packs etc! If and when my differential noise comes back, I think I too will try adding a bit of extra additive after another flush.

Exactly! So what is the issue with these clutch packs? Are they defective? Are they subject to failure with too many burn outs? Why do some make noise and the majority don't? I don't understand this issue. Please someone advise.

I've never had any problem with the differential on my 2005. As a matter of preventative maintenance I just changed the transmission fluid to Royal Purple. I planned to change the differential fluid to Royal Purple but now I'm wondering....should I leave well-enough alone? If it ain't broke....

According to the brand quality engineer, 2 bottles of the limited slip conditioner would decrease the effectivness of the limited slip clutches.

Maybe why slime has no place in the original design specs. A cheap way to cover up a design problem though.

I have an appointment Wednesday to replace defect. You would think they would fine a better material to fix this problem.

GM does a lot of things that don't make sense! That's why they are losing market share to the rice grinders.
