I am curious. I see from the original posting that our young man is in the service. Fantastic. Thanks for your sacrifice. He is obviously enlisted from his age (i.e., not an officer). Having served myself (Go Navy!), I know what these young men make (even junior officers don't make that much). Even if he has been in the service for a couple of years, he is not making the kind of coin that would either afford or justify buying a $50k car.
This has nothing to do with being "too young" to own a Corvette - hell, I'm not that old either (so I tell my wife!). But, I don't really think you want to be tying yourself down to such a large obligation, especially when you are most likely deployed much of the time and unable to actually enjoy the car. You don't have the time or the money to use/afford a purchase like this, especially all the other costs that come with it - insurance, repairs, etc. I would save my money, if I were you.
Im 23, I just got off the phone with my girl and I told her Im going to get a 06 loaded vette and she told me it feels weird for me to have a vette like that. She saw it as Im too young to own that much of a car, like it was for older men only. She loves the car and cant wait fot me to get it and all. But it got to me alittle, a C5 owner told me the same thing about me in my c4. He said I was to young to own a vette in that condition. Im not a rich boy Im in the military and Im about to sign over 4 more years of my life for my country. When I do they will give me $22.5k up front and $22.5k over the next 4 years. I was going to drop $15k plus trade in and take a $25k loan. I feel like I deserve it but will I be accepted into the C6 world.
In a nut shell $22,000 invested for 25 years will yeild you $179,589 assuming an average of 8%, $1000 invested yearly, 3.1% inflatioin, and and average federal tax rate of 15%.
i was 23 when i got mine.. and as a side note, i got rid of the fiance at the same time, she was more expensive than the vette... i saved money and i get laid more too its a win win.

You got that right! I've been spending $30K a year for my wifes Masters progarm (she decided to have a career after our son graduated high school) and another $30K a year for my son who is now a junior in college. And this of course doesn't include her car... Women are expensive. But at least in my case there is a light at the end of the tunnel: only 1 kid and a wife who will for the first time be bringing in an income. Hopefully more than she spends, I'll need Mod money.
A) Never too Young;B) Don't let women or anyone else run you C) You deserve it

Bro',
Of course you should get the Vette.
1) When I was 21 I was an E-5 and had a new Vette, and got the same nergative-isms (which you refer to) re being too young for "a car like that;" I'm 68 now and still driving "Plastic Chevies" (19 so far)... and digging it!
2) Don't let women or anyone else (gender independent) make your decisions for you. Sensible advice, re financial planning is one thing ..but your future in the next four years may unfortunately not be in your own hands, God Forbid.
3) Bro' you deserve the best...you're serving your country, albeit for an illogical cause, but that ain't the point. You and a lot of young guys like you, may come into harm's way and therefore, it seems logical to me for you to get the most out of life while you can ...and enjoying a fine ride like a C-6 Vette is definitely one of life's pleasures!!

That is true ... but it does not take into account the happiness of the car today ...
No offense ... but some people (not saying that you are) are to concerned about long term savings ... not saving that it is not important, but it is not the be all end all
While I agree, that the $22,000 is better saved for the long term ... saving it just to be mad at yourself is dumb.
Personally ... I max out my IRA, no 401(k) offered ... and at 25 y/o I figure I am better off saving and having fun ... even with the impending Vette purchase, I should be able to save ~$500-700/month ...

I see what your saying but the car wouldnt cost me $50k it would cost me $35k. And I get a $22.5 cash sign bonus which I was going to use $15k as a down payment. So I would finance $20k or less depending how much coin I have in the regular bank. I can still afford a apartment, gas, and bills. **** counting all the bills I come to about $2000 a month in bills. Navy pay is not that bad they changed alot. I priced insurance and I will pay off a fulll year at a time. As far as the car sitting because of deployments I know about 100 guys in here that dont even sit in their car they keep them as beauty queens. So if my has to sit for 3-6 months and not run up mileage Ill have to deal with it. All the different point of views help thanks.
i'm 19 (and i think youngest on this forum to own a c6). from personal experience, people will be suprised you have one being so young. I don't think you should get one, b\c especially at a young age like ours i dont think you should buy something thats a toy unless u have the money to pay for it upfront, and not go in debt. Remember a car isnt a good investment, if ure buying an 06 corvette expect to lose alot when you sell it,so count that money gone..... Sometimes it would be better to save... but then again, what the hell you only live once i guess...(many ways to look at it)
