Im 23, I just got off the phone with my girl and I told her Im going to get a 06 loaded vette and she told me it feels weird for me to have a vette like that. She saw it as Im too young to own that much of a car, like it was for older men only. She loves the car and cant wait fot me to get it and all. But it got to me alittle, a C5 owner told me the same thing about me in my c4. He said I was to young to own a vette in that condition. Im not a rich boy Im in the military and Im about to sign over 4 more years of my life for my country. When I do they will give me $22.5k up front and $22.5k over the next 4 years. I was going to drop $15k plus trade in and take a $25k loan. I feel like I deserve it but will I be accepted into the C6 world.
Your girlfriend is right, Corvettes are intended for old, fat, balding men (see picture of Rick Conti). Young kids like you need to be driving riced out Civics. In a few more years, you can graduate to a 350Z. But the Corvette is off-limits until you are at least 55.
Of course you will be accepted, and welcomed! Corvettes are not for just old gray-haired rich guys. But, (and this is a big "but" in my opinion) at your age that 22 grand could sure be a big step toward financial security later in life. To me, its soooo much more fun not having my "fun" car attached to a financial obligation. Just would'nt be the same with a car payment. But that is just my opinion. If you feel life will present you with many opportunities to see a $22K lump sum, then go for it and don't look back.
Only you can address your financial capability. But as far as age?! Back in the 60's, when some of the old farts on this forum were your age, including me, we were ponying up bucks for GTO's, Chevelle 396's, and yes, the hot Mustangs... They weren't cheap for us, at the time.
If you can afford it, and not put yourself in future serious financial difficulties... GO FOR IT!!! You will never regret it.
And by the way, thank you for your service to our country!
Man if you think 23 is to young what do you say to me. Im 19 and I have a 2008 on order it will be my first corvette. I have wanted one ever sence i was 16 my thought is if you can afford one and worked hard for one might as well get it and enjoy it while you can. YOu only live once and you gotta live to the fullest just be safe out there and dont crash and have a great time and enter the brotherhood of corvette fans.
Heck, if a 16 year old could afford it than I'd say go for it (but not while I'm on the road! I don't want my vette anywhere near any 16 year old drivers)....
Anyway, the key is "if you can afford it". Being younger and less experienced in life, its more difficult to see long term needs and it's easier to make poor decisions like buying something really expensive outside your financial boundaries. You might be able to afford it now, but it can really hurt you and set you back quite a bit later on in life. For instance, you might be adding 5 years to your retirement date - but being so young, it's hard to know this kind of thing because it's so far off.
The bottom line is that it's your life, your money, and your future. You can do whatever you want with it, but if you do end up later regretting your decisions now, I can only hope that you learn from your lessons and don't make the same mistake again!
I totally understand I have a 40K claim with statefarm. I had a crash about a month ago and hydroplaned into a fence so they paying me 40K and some change so im only going to owe roughly 7-8k with the car and the few mods I want so I dont feel ill be putting myself in debt to much I know im young but i can pay off 8k in a year or 2 easily then i plan to trade again in 2010 for the c7 those are my plans. but people that wanna owe like 20k or more by the time they get the car paied off it will be worth little to nothing it will have depriciated so much and when u get i payed off it will be a old car that starts breaking down and having all sorts of problems. bad idea and will set u back prob afew years for retirement like u said.
Yeah I understand on investments( which I do have iras) but I see it as tomorrow could be your last you never know. I dont wanna be too old and retire and not have the energy to enjoy or work on my new corvette. Im only dropping 15k of the 22k and I will have 6k already in the bank. It will be cheaper than what Im paying for the c4 in payments. Ill have it paid off in 3 years anyway after its all said and done. I gotta wait alittle longer to buy it but I wont make a stupied step and over due myself. Did that once with a 02 WS6 that was 32k back in the day.
I see no problem. I am turning 23 in a month and have a C6. I have been accepted in the C6 world, can't see why you wouldn't be! It isn't about your age, it's about the passion for the car! Good luck!
I was 26 when I purchased my C6. It hasn't aged me. :-)
Nowadays, driving a Vette when you are younger makes you stand out a bit. You expect to see older people driving them. Just be prepared for jealous a$$holes to give you crap left and right while you're on the road. The other C6 owners will most likely welcome you warmly, though.
Bottom line, you like it, you want it, and if you can swing it, buy it! Screw the "old guy car" stigma.
You will definitely be accepted here.. Thank you for your service to our country ..We all owe you a big THANK YOU for putting your life on the line so that we can live in this great country.. That's what gives us the oppurtunity to follow our dreams and own Corvettes.. Watch your back, stay safe and BUY THAT VETTE !
watch your back and always ALWAYS park your car in visible site from where you are going if you cant see your baby then park it right in the middle of the parking lot. I made a mistake last year i had a 2006 BMW 330I and i had it 2 weeks i was 18 and some Jealous ****** **** KEYED MY CAR all down the side so watch out for mean jealous people i dont get why anyone in the world would hurt someones property but face it there are evil people in thid world and they Do not wear signs. saying they are evil so you gotta watch your own back!

Being too young to buy to own a Vette is just an overrated perception help by the general public. Sure there's a bunch of older aged folks that own Vettes, but there's two main reasons for that. First off, many, such as myself didn't have the finances to buy one until later in life. There are also once younger Vette enthusists that grew older.
You should make the decision for yourself as to being too young to own a Vette, not somebody else. That is a freedom that we all have due to folks like you that are willing to defend it. In my book, that makes you one of the most deserved people to make that descision for themselves, cause you have darn sure earned it.
As far as being accepted in the Corvette world, let me answer that by saying:
