Default 07 Engine vs 08 Engine

I'm going to get a C6 in the next 6 months or so...and from what I've read on the forum seems like there's always bugs to work out on new models and its always best to wait until the first few years of production etc..But what about the engine up grade...should one be worried about bugs as far as the engine goes....

I would not be worried about an engine "upgrade". I don't recall (no pun intended) any issues with the LS1 - which was a new engine design.

The LS6 did not have any issues and it was just a modified LS1. I would go with the LS3 in a heartbeat (again, no pun intended).

I would get the '08 with no qualms whatsoever. If there are any issues (unlikely), that's why there's a warranty.

Wasn't there a bunch of "oil burners" that needed all new rings installed??? I recall it afflicted many 01 LS6 motors. I believe you can check this out over in the C5 Z06 section. As a former C5 Z06 owner I steered clear of the 01's when I was shopping for a used C5 Z06.

The basis for the LS3 has been running around in Cadillac Escalades and GMC Yukon Denalis (known as the L92) for almost a year now...it's already a somewhat proven motor at this point.
The other minor changes to the 2008 C6 are simply not extensive enough to warrant having those first model year jitters.

I had/have no bugs in my 2005 with 9500 miles. Quality is there. Don't worry about it.

The '01's did have oil issues because GM went too light on the ring tension.

My 2008 LS3 does not burn any oil! AND it's a beast. It's love it.

the old adage to wait until the next year of a new model, engine, etc., does not hold true today. the R&D on all cars is very extensive as well as real world testing. just buy what you want, when you want w/o any worry

I have an o7 (LS2). Trust me... get the 08 (LS3). I've spent a lot of money getting that 30 hp. Also, I hear the LS3 is a beast. A lot more HP available with a good tune.

There were issues with the LS1 when it first came out. Piston slap was the main issue we complained about. The engine would sound like a sewing machine when started cold. Oil getting by the PVC into the TB was another annoyance with the LS1. Piston slap has pretty much been fixed and GM got wise and strated making the FRC's with sound deadening to help absorb any drivetrain noises that remain. The oil issue still seems to exist on a smaller scale in the LS2 and LS3 engines.

ATTENTION!!! Don't get it what ever you do. I can tell you that the LS2 has a major problem. It has placed a permagrin on my face ever since I got my 05. Their is no way to fix it whatsoever. If that is any indication of what might happen if you get the LS3 then avoid it like the plague. The supercharger I am adding is probably going to make it impossible for me to go out in public due to the severe facial disfigurement.

No question about it...get a 08 or 09 with the LS3. I almost bought a 06 or 07 b/c of how cheap they were but in the end decided I wanted to have the latest and greatest Coupe engine. Many on here complain about how hard the value of the earlier c6's have fallen. No doubt some of it is due to the current state of the economy and the giving away, so to speak, of new Corvettes. However, I also believe that the reason the bottom on the 05 to 07 models has fallen out is b/c Chevrolet came out with the better, more efficient, and more powerful LS3. Additionally, there is a myraid of other interior/performance refinements on the 08's and also the coolness of the now factory available NPP exhaust which you do not have on the older 05-07 models.

I would not think of any part of the 08 or newer cars as a "new" anything but rather a refreshening/perfecting of already proven C6 formula.

If money is not a factor get the 08. I bought the 07 because of the year end blow out prices. My new 07, VY, 2 LT, A6, Z51 was about 38,500.
