I just bought a new 07 ZO6 and the salesman told me to make sure I put it in reverse or the battery will go dead. I guess my salesman is not up to date on the 06 and later models.
I have found that most salesman don't know squat about the corvette's they sell.We and this forum know much, much more than them! A Few exceptions are out there, mostly on this forum.
05-park in reverse (actually,shut down)
any other year,do what you want.

I have an '07, so DBS is not an issue. . . However, I place the shifter in whichever gear the car will need to safely move out. I've had my foot slip off the clutch pedal in the past (other cars), after starting. Even at idle, them C6 has plenty enough torque to move the car suddenly, if your foot slips.
