Do you or dont you have to shut off the 2007 MN6 in reverse - I have heard mixed responses from the dealer and from friends with the same car.....please help.
Yes, you can start it in any gear with the clutch pressed in, but to shut it off, you have to put it in reverse, with the clutch in, hit the button or will not shut off all the accessories.
No, you do not have to do that with an 07 C6. GM suggests you do, but it's not required. Here's what the 2007 owner's manual says on page 105:
Parking Your Vehicle
(Manual Transmission)
Before you get out of your vehicle, move the shift
lever into REVERSE (R) and firmly apply the
parking brake. Once the shift lever has been
placed into REVERSE (R) with the clutch pedal
pressed in, you can turn the ignition off and
release the clutch.
Now read what the 05 owner's manual says:
Parking Your Vehicle
(Manual Transmission)
Before you get out of your vehicle, move the shift lever
into REVERSE (R) and firmly apply the parking
brake. Once the shift lever has been placed into
REVERSE (R) with the clutch pedal pressed in, you
can turn the ignition off and release the clutch. If
you attempt to exit the vehicle without being in
REVERSE (R), the Driver Information Center (DIC) will
display SHIFT TO REVERSE and a chime will sound. Notice: If you do not put a manual transmission in
REVERSE (R) before exiting your vehicle, the
battery will drain and could be damaged. Always put
a manual transmission in REVERSE (R) before
shutting off the engine and exiting the vehicle.

Welcome to the forum.
2005 Park in Reverse is mandatory to shut the car down properly. If you do not shut the car off in Reverse it will not shut off all the electronics and it will kill the battery in a matter of two days.
2006, 2007. Park in reverse is optional. It is not required for the shutdown sequence. It is a good idea to park the car in reverse as it has the best gear ratio to keep the car in place in the event of an emergency brake failure.
So for you, do it if you want to, don't if you don't. Either way it will have no impact on your car.

Totally wrong, only the 05 MANUALS have to be shut down in reverse.
As noted, the "shut down in Reverse" was a "feature" of the MN6 '05's only. Matter-of-fact, there was a tag hung on the shift lever when cars were delivered to remind drivers. But, as in too many instance, many of the tags were lost or many of the drivers forgot or many failed to read their Owner's Manual. Thus, the dreaded "DBS" (Dead Battery Syndrome). Fortunately, the design was changed from '06 on.....so those of us with '05's still wake up in the middle of the night wondering...did I put the sucker in Reverse when I shut it down?

I stand corrected!, This is only neccessary for 05's, which is what I have. I guess GM got a lot of complaints on this and fixed it. Personaly, I don't care, I will put it in reverse, but it is kind of stupid to make us 05 owners do this. Thanks, GM!
I have an 07 so for me it doesn't matter. But I have a rule, if I pull into the parking spot I usually put it in reverse depending on the incline. If I back into the spot it goes in first. Never know when your foot is going to slip off the clutch. Don't laugh, it happened to me in my last car and wound up putting a nice gash in my front end.
The dealers may tell you to follow this procedure still on the newer models to be on the safe side after all issues with 2005 manuals. My dealership said the same thing when I took delivery of my 2006, even though I already knew the scoop. They were very knowledgable about the car, so I think they were just sticking to the party line when saying it had to be shut down in reverse, but most likely knew it wasn't necessary.
I just bought a new 07 ZO6 and the salesman told me to make sure I put it in reverse or the battery will go dead. I guess my salesman is not up to date on the 06 and later models.
