Can I take these off??????

I guess you can. It's a half piece that mates to another piece below the carpet. So if you pull the top apart you'll still be left with the bottom threaded half. Then you'll probably have to get underneath the carpet somehow. Then to top it off you'll be left with a hole in the carpet. My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.

Suggestion
Rather than taking off the post, modify the rubber mat to use the post to maintain the correct position on the floor.

I agree....the rubber nubs are there to serve a purpose. I also think you'll cause more damage removing them than it's worth (at least if you place any value on the underlying carpet). Even the wonderful Lloyd's floormats utilize the factory posts to keep their floormats in-place.
