proper placards/tags....remember just because they appear healty doesnt mean anything...FWIW a Z06 in a handicapped spot is no different than a new XLR or some other luxury vehicle...maybe it has special equipment in it.....

Are handicapped people not allowed to drive cool cars?

We obviously cannot say in this instance but it does make you wonder. Where our offices used to be there was a woman who had a valid handicapped 'tag' and she routinely parked in the handicapped space closest to her business. She had no visible infirmity or disability...she wasn't elderly and I considered her 'healthy enough.' She parked there because it was closest to her business and she had the proper handicapped license tag. Meanwhile, the poor guy confined to the wheelchair had to fend for himself in the over-crowded back 40 parking lot. It never seemed right to me (and we used to tell her as much). Sadly some people abuse the system.

There are many people with challenges that are not outwardly visible ...

You might wonder about me also. I parked in a handicapped spot just last week. Put the handicapped tag in the window and hopped out as spryly as ever. Later the dentist and I were seen walking around looking the car over, trying features, having a good time before we went back in the office with the car still in a handicapped spot. Later I came around the car, hopped in with no obvious handicap because I'm not handicapped, took the tag out of the window, and drove off. I'm a jerk, right?

Now what I didn't describe was that after I got out the first time I went to the passenger side and got my 92 year old mother out to take her into the dentist's office. It took us over 5 minutes to walk into the dentist's office and another 5 coming out. Unless you saw us walking from or to the car you wouldn't know. She is so short she can barely see out of the car even with the seat as high as it will go.

Yes there are lots of people who think their mental deficiency entitles them to a handicapped spot. But unless you see the whole thing it can be deceiving. If I'm going to pick my mother up at the nursing home I have no qualms about parking in a handicapped spot and running in to get her. I NEVER park in a handicapped spot without her even if there are no other spaces. I'll sit and wait for someone to leave before I would get out the tag. But if you just saw what I described in the first paragraph you would never know that.

Handicapped does not mean "crippled". He can have a bad hand, eye, etc....

I've got a Vette and yes, it has a handicapped parking privilege. Just because you cannot see what war does to a leg, does not mean it is not real.

There are people that qualifly due to heart or lung problems. You may not be able to tell by just looking.

Not doubt that are people who abuse the privilege however not all.
THose are the ones create the problems.

Just my thoughts.

So if you have a bad hand or eye THAT entitles you to upfront parking? Do they hurt when they walk to far????
That is whats wrong with the system, too many people with a bad hand, eye, that get upfront parking when they have no problem walking. Before long all of us will have a placards for different pains we have, and then there won't be any spots left for the people who really need them.

I saw a young lady park in a handicapped spot, and she ran into the store. Maybe she has restless lags syndrome.

I saw a truck a handicapped spot last week. This thing was lifted so even I would need a ladder to climb into it. I'm over 6 feet tall.

Of course this was on a military installation. But I could not imagine any disability that would require parking closer to the building and still allow the individual to climb the 7 feet into the cab.

There was a fairly young woman in the Gym that I used to go to that had a new Mercedes. She also had a handicap parking permit hanging from the mirror. She would park in the handicap spot every morning, come in to the Gym and get in her workout. She was healthy. The story goes that the permit belonged to one of her parents and she used it because she thought that her Mercedes needed to be parked in a good spot where she could keep an eye on it while she worked out. She couldn't believe that anyone would question this practice.
Many people need these permits and should be afforded the use of a closer parking spot. Unfortunately these permits are loosely regulated in most places and there is a lot of abuse. Something should be done about it, but nobody wants to be the bad guy who opens up this can of worms.
