Default First dent...

Ok, while backing out of the garage I hit the wall next to the door with the driver's outside mirror. It left a small indentation on the door. Not really noticeable but still you can see it when you're looking right @ it from the rear of the car. Is this dent going to be expensive to have removed? Thanks

Anytime I got to the body shop with a vette my auto guy goes "cha-ching." But my issues are generally bigger then a small dent.

I would just ensure that you take it to a quality shop. I got lucky and my local dealership has a great body shop - but I pay for it.

Pictures might help others give you some advice.

Best of luck.

It starts with taking the first step. I'd suggest checking with the local Vette club. These are fanatics, some get involved with the local car show scene. They also will know the shops highly recommended or at least to stay away from.

If you don't get referrals and are doing this cold, when you do decide on a shop to check out, take a look around the shop. Ask yourself...what is the Corvette workload or other nice car workload look like. Good shops are busy and stay busy with the kinds of custom work required for exotic and high end rides.

Try to get several bids if you can, just so you have a feel for what is market value for this kind of work. Knowledge is power.

Good luck.

If the "dent" is not too visible, chances are it shouldn't take much to repair. Granted, costs for any repairs always seem high but it doesn't sound bad.

Search out qualified body shops accustomed to working on Corvette's. I actually discovered my dealership had an excellent body shop.

I'm sorry about the damage but now your car is broken-in. Hey, I had a fluorescent light bulb fall out of the fixture and fall about 12' down onto the hood of my car causing damage (what are the odds).

Good luck!

I have a dent in the fiberglass hood of my John Deere tractor from a tree branch. It does happen.

I'm in Chicago - maybe someone here knows of a good shop?

How much did it cost you to get fixed?

I thought these cars were made of plastic now? Aren't the panels flexible? I never tried it with the C5, but with my 94 trans am, the two front fenders were plastic and you could litterally push them in and they would pop out again. If it is really dented, I'd imagine a paintless dent service could pop it out pretty cheap.

What you think is a "dent" might be an imperfection around the mirror where it meets the door. - thousands have it.

Just look the entire door over of any vette and concentrate your vision at the base of the mirror around the door panel.

GM says it is "normal" !

Yeah, it's present on the passenger side but it's way more pronounced on the driver's side...

No fiberglass as far as I know. The body panels are composite plastic and the front and rear fascias are some type of polyurethane I think.

The term "fiberglas" has become an over used umbrella word for all types of composites used in Corvettes. Sheet molded compound is the norm now and even then there are many variations, whereas laid up glas mat or cloth was use in the early days. These new materials have incredible strength and flexibility. The days of stress cracks in fenders and bond lines showing through are long gone.

Well then I guess the GM service manual is wrong. The exploded view shows all of the body panels. It says SMC.... Sheet molded compound. But then you never can trust those folks at GM. They lie about everything.
