You guys should feel great about your Corvette shifters. My last car was a Porsche 996 Twin Turbo. The factory shifter was crap.... long throws... no precision. To add to the pain, my $150K+ car has a $12 PLASTIC bushing on the bottom of the shift lever that broke while my wife was driving it, leaving her stranded in rush hour traffic waiting for a tow truck (more pain). I ended up upgrading to the Porsche GT2 short throw shifter and was much happier.
BTW, The new vette is just as much fun to drive, feels almost as fast, and about 1/3 the price.
My dealer just told me this week that there are new bushings available for the C6 shifter that supposedly makes it more precise and eliminates some of the vibration... it's being installed right now... we'll see.
I've driven a lot of sports cars, and some of the best out there shifting-wise are the Honda S2000, the new Mazda MX5 Miata, the BMW Z4M, and the 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0. The one in my new GS coupe is pretty good, but a notch below those I've mentioned. I'd call it just a bit vague, but I prefer a bit notchy, it must be that road racing experience of mine, I think once I get some miles on the car I'll put in a Hurst or another aftermarket linkage, at least shorten the throws a bit. All said, I think it's pretty good, just not as good as some.
