I posted in the last thread about this, the first problem was a "run" on both sides of the head liner. That was replaced and I picked the car up June 1st. It's going back Monday, this head liner has a hole on the passenger side. Hopefully this can be fixed for good, the car is an 06 with 3200 miles. I love my car, but this top issue is a PITA!!!!!
I sanded the edges of mine at about 12K or so. I've had my '06 for about 1 year and almost 19K miles. There is a small hole/wear spot on the passenger side but it has not gotten worse or progressed to the other side. Get some fine grit sandpaper and you will have no further issues!
Guys I understand sanding the rails to prevent the wear. My problem is that we shouldn't have to do this. If we can figure this out, someone at GM should be able to also. Not to mention that the majority of us have cars under factory warranty.
Just had mine repaired under warranty. Dealer said GM quoted 1.3 labor hours to do the job. Dealer's convertible top repair facility said it took them 10 hours to get the top off, replace the headliner and reinstall the top. No matter to me as it is all under warranty, but plan your time accordingly and check the top before the warranty runs out. In my case, the passenger side wore a hole about 3/4" diameter at the hinge point, but the driver's side did not get damaged. Top works fine now, but I do check it to see that the liner does not get caught as the top goes down.
I just had mine repaired yesterday. Had a 3/4" hole in the passenger side of the headliner. All fixed under warranty. The dealer told me that GM allows only 1.3 labor hours for the job, but it took the convertible top shop 10 hours to fully remove the top, reinstall the headliner and reassemble/test the top. If you have the problem, plan your time accordingly as this is a two step process-first to get the liner ordered and delvicered, and then to have it installed. Good luck, and keep a close watch on the top for any evidence of wear so that the problem can be corrected under warranty
Mine was showing "stress" marks on passengers side where metal (stuck my hand back there and could feel it) was pinching or rubbing material as it shut. Stuck a piece of felt back there between metal and liner and no more stress marks. Felt stays in place and cannot be seen.
'07, 3LT (power top) 4,000 miles in 10 months. Small hole appearing on passanger side. I've been watching it since I saw the first thread on this. This forum is great for those of us that love our Vettes.
I've got a 10 month old vert too. My arc shaped scratch in the passenger side of the headliner turned into a little hole at 2,000 miles. Have been waiting for a GM fix, no word yet but they did issue me a service request # to document the issue. Now at 6,800 miles the hole just got bigger and it's time to fix it. I had the dealer order me a 'rail' and the headliner, and they will fix it (I hope) on Monday. With a little luck it will be a one time fix.
