I am planning on buying a Vert but noticed a thread yesterday with several people reporting holes in their convertible headliner. What seems to be the cause and how widespread is this problem? Any other known issues with the Verts? I plan to keep this car at least 10 years so recurring problems outside of warranty could be a deal breaker for me.

If yours does have this problem have it fixed under warranty, call GM and get a claim #. If it happens again you should be grandfathered in for warranty.
I think mine had this problem when I bought it new. Never noticed it, until I realized that the drivers side looked different than the passengers side.
I believe this is caused by rough metal on the side rails rubbing against the material when the top is in operation. Sanding the metal or perhaps putting something on it might slow or cure the issue. GM has seemingly done nothing to fix this other than to keep replacing the part. I hope the poster is right about grandfathering in the fix as vert tops are not covered under extended warranties.
I am on my 3rd C6 Vert-no problems ever on any one of them, and the car is used as a daily driver when the snow isn't flying...so the top has been up and down a ton of times.
I've got an "07 with 6650 miles on it. I have wear spots on both the driver and passenger sides. The wearing is due to the rounded edge of the metal top rubbing against the headliner when the top is stowed. I now make a conscious effort to manually make sure that the fabric doesn't get pinched when I put the top down. I haven't noticed any progression in the wear marks since I started doing this.

Sometimes in a forum environment, a person will post a particular issue and attract lots of "me too" responses while those not affected will just overlook the thread because it doesn't apply to them, thus it will tend to be one sided.
'07, 3LT (power top) 4,000 miles in 10 months. Small hole appearing on passanger side. I've been watching it since I saw the first thread on this. This forum is great for those of us that love our Vettes.
'05, power top. I can see a slight difference on the passenger side (some wrinkles, no hole) -- the headliner on that side seems to fit tighter than on the driver side. Almost always drive top down.
