Default 3LT vs 2LT

I can't decide if I want to spend the $5100 extra for the 3LT on a vert. I really don't want the power top because I think it takes up some of the limited room in the trunk anyway and a manual top is easy enough to operate. Heated seats, memory, power telescopic steering wheel, radio controls on the steering wheel, I can do without. However, I plan on getting the Z51 package and would definitely miss the HUD. I have it on my C5 and love it. So it boils down to paying $5100 for the only thing I really want, the HUD. Anyone else have this same predicament?

Similar to mine. Most raved about HUD and most slammed BOSE which were my 2 most desired 3LT items. Since I never had HUD, I knew that I wouldn't "miss" it. Plus it's not that big of a deal looking down every once in a while to check my speed. Don't really need to know how fast I'm going when I am driving in traffic.

The only thing I miss with my 2LT car is telescoping wheel. With my seating position (back and somewhat reclined), it seems that my arms are extended more than I would like.

If HUD is the only part of 3LT that appeals to you, I'd skip it. HUD is nice, but IMO there are other pieces of 3LT that are more valuable e.g. heated seats, auto-dimming mirrors, and the ability to also order navigation. Personally, I doubt that I'll ever own another car without those features.

When I bought my 07 vert last Dec. I was in the same boat as you. I went for the 3LT and I'm glad I did. You get alot more with it and also you have to look at resale.

I don't think the power top uses any more space than the manual and it accounts for about 40% of the 3lt cost, I had a C5 vert and like the power top. Any time I drive a car without a HUD I'm always looking for it in the windshield for it.

I bought the 3LT convertible, and I even like the features I didn't think I would use very much.

I had to find an 06 on the lot cause I couldnt see paying for the power top. Corvettes didnt have power tops for 40 years anyway

I have the HUD and am glad I have it, but not so much I would miss it. Its something cool to show people and its convenient not looking down, but for the most part, I already know Im speeding.

The track modes are a cool novelty but again, you gotta watch the road most of the time. I dont drive the vert when Id need the heated seats but I love them in my DD. Tele and wheel mounted controls are forgettable options. Ive got the NAV for the very reason of having the touch screen. The controls make more sense if you have HUD so that ones tough

Get the Z51 and if you really want the HUD there are people adding it from salvage right now. Soon GM has to start selling the parts over the counter so there will be reliable ways to add the factory HUD in a matter of months. just MHO. The 06 was easier to get right, they got you in a tough spot with the new packages

And that was one of my questions, can the HUD be added? I think it's not only a convenience but a safety factor. I wish I had it on my new Tahoe with the hard to see gages.

Can be added. The debate right now is since its not a factory option, whether its a warranty killer.

That would be a stretch for GM to void a warranty for adding a GM option to the car, but like I said its debatable.

The first thing I did was rip out everything that had BOSE electronics so by the strictest definition, I may have already voided mine for any electronics glitches

GM is not selling the parts right now since any C6 that would have it is still under the 3 year warranty but the clock is ticking. I think the GM parts house is going to post "kit" prices soon

2LT here with the coveted power passenger seat ( though I have few passengers ).

I bought the car to drive and nothing in 3LT enhances how fast it is or how well it handles.

Somehow, probably my long experience shifting hi po engines without it, I manage to actually drive the car without HUD. It's tough but I manage.

Americans tend to like bells and whistles so I think resale will be easier. Look at European vehicles and you find they are much more austere. Yep, the decked out models are a rip-overpriced for what you get, but I think resale will be much easier.

I was in the same predicament, the way I saw it to convince myself on the 3LT was that the 5100 gets spread out about 110.00 a month for 48 months, yeah it's worth it.

just didn't want to pay all that extra money for the 3lt vert.
i went with 2lt--z51,chrome wheels,two tone seats.
got enough goodies in my other car. count me with the guys who probably could afford the 3lt,but damn it i'm not wasting money.
(HEATED SEATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)already learned to live withou hud.
............some of these verts are so loaded the msrp is as high as 68000! need a 5digit discount to make it more tempting.
AND DON'T EVEN ASK ABOUT THOSE 4LT PRICES FOR 2008!

The power top takes exactly zero extra space. The hydrolic unit for the power top is about half the size of a brick and is tucked into the area where the top hides away right behind the passenger seat. The great thing about the power top is that you don't have to get out of the car to put the top up/down. Set the emergency break and press a button, very, very nice and very fast.
