iPod with Navigation Update

Not necessarily true. The Head unit does not have any "Ipod interface" built in. It should work just like the current Ipod units work with the Nav. They take over one of the XM screens and use that real estate. The buttons and logic are contained on the external unit. Many (most) of the current units seem to plug in via the XM box in the back. There is very little if any change to the '08 Nav headunit from the ones in the '05-'07 cars.
One thing I'm concerned about is whether the HU will be able to handle the huge amount of songs. Scrolling through MP3 CDs is sluggish. What about a 30gig ipod full of songs!

"Once the device is installed, the customer plugs the iPod into an interface cable in the glove box, where the player can be safely secured and stowed. The device also charges the iPod while the vehicle is operating."
So that answers that buring question.

I'd say the interface just allows data to be passed back and forth between the HU and the iPod. However, the GUI if you will is contained in the HU (Nav). Prior to the '08 I'd assume they would have had to build some logic into the nav unit in order to present iPod data in a way that makes sense. Now if the built-in Nav has an XM interface that would also work for an iPod, then I suppose the Nav doesn't care where the data is coming from. I haven't really seen what the GUI looks like, but I'd think they would have it work differently than XM.

I just hope the sound quality is good, can't wait to get this.
Will they be selling this over the counter as I don't trust anyone else to do my audio installs?

Yeah, what Tom said.
