I think it is best to get the newest one that fits into your budget.Like most cars, there are running changes from year to year that improves each model year.
Most who own 05's on the forum seem to be very satisfied, but a few first year problems that some experienced were apparently addressed for the 06 model such as crank pulley bolt and dbs.The 06 also went with the 6 speed automatic if that is any benefit for you.
All in all they are both great cars that you would be proud to own.

If you find the right '05 as I did you can't go wrong with either. The introduction of the '06 fixed some of the nagging issues about the '05 such as the crank pulley and the shift to reverse contributing to dead battery syndrome (DBS).

These threads should help you out a little bit:

The only issue I've had with my (late model year) 2005 was a broken clutch pedal assis spring that was repaired in five minutes. It's been flawless.

I had enough problems with my '05, that I sold it an purchased an '06. My 06 now has 8,000 miles and has had no problems.

There did seem to be a few more problems with the 05s than with the 06s. Dead Battery Syndome on the manuals, occasional column lock, more delaminating roofs, crank pulley, dead radios, auto tranny shifter.

Generally speaking you're better off with the newer model. Certainly mechanical issues happen to any model year car. Some time back, I posted a reliability and satisfaction poll of 2005 C6 owners. The vast majority (90%+) considered their 2005 C6 to be reliable and they were quite satisfied. FWIW my 2005 has been exceptionally problem-free.

All things being equal go with the newer model but I wouldn't be dissuaded from buying a 2005 if it has the features you want.
