On my 3rd Roof
Roof #1 lasted one year, #2 lasted one year, now on my 3rd.
Went into dealer today to order the new one hope this replacement
roof is the SMC.

Your new roof will be a SMC....hopefully everything turns out OK.

Only SMC roofs are available. I have not seen any reports of problems with the SMC roofs. You should be OK once you get the new roof.

In CA I think if you get the car repaired for the same issue three times you can go for a lemon law claim.

SMC is sheet molding compound, a fiber glass reinforced thermoset compound in sheet form. The C5 roof panels were made of SMC. They switched the C6 panel initially to a polycarbonate to save weight (~3 lbs.). Differences of thermal expansion of the polycarbonate and the frame caused the adhesive to be put in shear during periods of high temperature which caused the panel to fail and delaminate. In August of 2006 for the 2007 model year cars the assembly plant finally was able to switch the manufacturing process back to SMC.

Had mine replaced with the SMC roof. No problems since.
