Default Windshield Bulls eye

Sad day Friday had a large (marble size) rock hit my windshield. Result a smart looking bulls eye. Any ideas where in Houston to get fixed? or get new windshield?

Has anybody replaced their windshield and if so what were the issues.

Haven't washed it (no water in the cracks) or drove it (won't increase the crack) yet. So it sits in the garage "wounded"

Thanks

Check with your dealership for a recommendation or your insurance company. It will be covered by your insurance.

Here in NY there is a company called Safelite.... they will come to you and do the repair (if its repairable), I had a nasty chip in my Mercedes and one in my Jeep that I thought would never be able to be fixed and they did a pretty good job on them both..... Im sure theres something like them around you... do a search......good luck

I'm waiting for the replacement windshield for mine. Been on order for about 2 weeks now.

If it can be repaired, you can probably get it done free by one of the many companies that specialize in windshield repair. If it cracks, it will probably covered by the Comprehensive portion of your insurance - minus the comprehensive deductible.

If you need to get it replaced, be aware that there are several different part numbers depending on what options your car has.

I would contact the local Lexus, BMW, or Acura dealer service department and ask them who they use for their rock chip repairs. They will probably have someone who comes out every week to fix their used cars. If it is smaller than two inches it can probably be filled. If it is over two or three inches, you will probably be looking at a new windshield.

If the damage is not directly in your line of sight, most repairs will be almost invisible. If it is right in you line of sight, you might still want to go the new window route. Like the others have said, if you go with the new glass, make sure they get OEM glass and that they put the right glass in (if your car has the heads up display it will be a different glass than one without it).

Recently read that insurance claims (no matter how small) influence what your premiums might be in the future. If you are just planning to get the "star" fixed, you might want to consider paying out-of-pocket. Lone Star Glass off of Bissonett does them for about $30 bucks. Of course, if you need a new windshield, that's different!

Sorry about your bad luck.

In the SW part of Houston, I would recommend either Stafford Auto Trim & Glass or Binswanger. Both are on Murphy Road near SW Fwy in Stafford. But it looks like you live in Brenham. Mac Haik Chevy at I-10W and Kirkwood is top notch for service if you want a dealership do the replacement.

Every state's insurance coverage requirements are different. First, check your policy and see if you have glass coverage. Then, check and see if there is a co-pay or deductible (here in MN, even if you have a decuctible on your comprehensive coverage, glass replacement is $0 out-of-pocket). Finally, you need to know how your insurance company treats a glass claim - here in MN, it cannot count against your premiums.

Frankly, I wouldn't go with "repair." Even if they do a good job, you will still be able to see the damage if you look at it carefully. If you have the coverage available, and it won't cost you anything, get a new windshield installed. Any decent glass installer should be able to get a windshield and install it.

If it isn't too bad look-into having it repaired. I had never done that before...with full glass coverage on my insurance I always had the windshield replaced. When a a rock nailed my C6 I wasn't eager to have my windshield replaced....I had it repaired. You really have to search to find where the repair was made....it worked for me.

If you do have it replaced and you have HUD...make sure it is a special 'HUD windshield.' Also, always carry full glass coverage on your insurance.

Usually your insurance company will send you to a specific shop to have glass repaired.
