Got hit by the DBS again on my 2005 MN6, must have been in 5th gear, I thought it was in reverse.
What is the recommended procedure to charge the battery?
3rd time since 9/06 when I got the car. I am getting pretty tired of this.
Thanks
Brian
If it was left in 5 gear its not DBS its operator goof up! If you do have REAL DBS get it to dealer and get the flash done. Bring in the number of the procedure needed from the post above. (A lot of these dealers do not have a clue and will do a door flash, GIVE THEM THE NUMBER YOU NEED) (Long story there, but an unfortunate fact)
I "had" a DBS car (4 episodes). To charge; I just hooked up a 12 amp charger and let it do its thing. It lowers the charge rate as the battery is coming up to full power
I had the 4 mentioned DBS attacks and the battery still checked out ok at the dealers (how I do not know)! I got rid of the car with the original battery still in it.(a week ago)
I do believe the flash fixed the car FINELY; I did not get rid of car because of DBS problems.
BATTERY TENDER works too.The worst it's ever been on my 05 is once I caught it when there wasn't enough power to start the car but everything else worked.I jumped it,drove it,and hooked up the battery tender. All is well since then, still w/original battery.
There is no way to properly charge a battery once it has been completely drained due to DBS. The battery is shot. Take the car to the dealer, demand the reflash, and demand a new battery.
I don't care what ridiculous procedure GM came up with as a band-aid to address DBS, the fact is that this should NOT be happening. You should not need to attach a Priority Start or tender to the battery just because the car sits for a couple of days. If it were 2 months, I could see the necessity, but not for a shorter period of time.
Self-inflicted battery drain does not constitute DBS (although it sounds like there was some prior history with the issue).
Have the battery checked...replace if needed and have the reflash performed at the dealership if it hasn't been done.

Not mine....so far. I've never had any issues....2+ years and going strong on the original battery. I do, however, expect to replace the battery at some point soon. My experience is that batteries last about 2-3 years.

Same here, it's certainly not a necessity. 05 MN6 that's never had an issue (knock, knock).
How did you leave it in 5th at shutdown? My car won't turn off if you don't put it in reverse. Chimes go off when the engine stops, etc.

Mike is right. A completely discharged wet cell will never be the same again. Given the shaky history of OEM batteries, you'll probably face this again even after a flash. Check the battery voltage after sitting all night and after it's been fully charged on a charger the day before (driving the car won't do it). If the voltage is below 12.2 volts, the battery is only able to hold 50% of it's original charge. Time for a new one. your dealer will probably be in denial about this whole thing though..

Reason: spelling!
I have an o5' with 10000 mi. and no problem at all. I read about this DBS on this site and asked my dealer about it. The service writer said he had never heard of such a thing, was he lying , or just a moron?

Possibly both!
IS that dealership a real small operation way out in the boonies that hardley ever sells a Vette?
My battery died after a year so I bought a yellow Optima. It lasted 8 months but at least I was able to recharge it. Didn't want a reflash since I've got my custom tune in there. So I opted for a battery charger. My 50K car (when new) gets to pull in the garage and have a charger plugged into the lighter so it will continue running :o
I've had mine for 21/2 years with no problem. I make sure it's in reverse, undo my seat belt , lift the steering wheel up, and THEN open the door. I think the 4-5 seconds it takes helps everything time to do it's thing.

The reflash doesnt wash out custom tunes. Its only for the BCM not the ECM.

I did all that you say and still had 4 DBS attacks. I also made sure radio,AC/heater was turned off, turned steering wheel to lock position. Wait by car to make sure all lights go off. Fob is stowed nowhere near the car, You name it I did it. Some cars have it MOST do not. Lets see what happens as the cars and batteries age.
Your just lucky, (most cars were), but if you have DBS it appears nothing YOU do will prevent it. The reflash (for those that have it appears to work.)
Have an 05 MN6 - had no DBS for 8 months - put in priority start. Priority saved me probably 8 times over next 16 months. Battery finally wouldn't hold a charge. Dealer replaced the battery and did the re-flash. So far so good.
Probably my only real concern about this car is whether it will start when I get in it. I need to put the Priority back in but I'm too busy enjoying the car.
Get a new battery and the flash.
