Default Silver vette?

I am ordering an 08 vette coupe and am still trying to figure out what colour to get. Currently I have an 06 LMB Z51. I was thinking about Atomic Orange or the new Jetstream Blue, but my wife says that I am too old for those colours. So now I am leaning towards the Silver. A ny comments from silver owners as to how "radiant" it is in the sun, etc.

Listen man, grow a pair and get the color you want! Dang, you're buying an '08, and you're going to pass up JSB? Tell wifey it matches all the blue hairs at the opera.

In my opinion, the silver is not that impressive in the bright sun. It really comes to life @ dusk or in the evening. I do think it shows the lines of the vette better than any other color.....ever wonder why most concept cars are in silver?

Silver shows off the lines of the car perfectly, but there are so many light grey AKA "silver" sedans, SUVs and minivans on the road that the color is urban camouflage.

Darker greys can look OK, but the bland grey of the C6 is a far cry from the rich, deep grey found on current production F430's.

If you're too old for an eye-catching, sporty color on your Vette, then you're too old to drive.

Buy the Atomic Orange! I have the Machine Silver and I do love it. I felt that it was a classic color that I wouldn't regret or get tired of. However, if I had to do it again I would go for the AO. Check some of the pictures that were recently posted here by owners with AO....think sunsets.

The silver will reflect enough sunlight to overload the camera, and can take enough shine to reflect the environment (see the hood in this photo):

I'm 55 and I just ordered an 08 in Atomic Orange. I have a metallic silver or birch colored avalanche and it's nice. But when I saw the atomic orange on the chevy dealers showroom floor I was sold. Lot of silver colored cars around and only a few atomic orange. With several layers of Zaino on it,man it's going to be nice

I have owned my 07 MS vert for 4 months now and love the color more than when I chose it!

You are never too old for anything that you like! I have a 2007 black vette but I think the AO is gorgeous too. My vette club agrees! GO for it! ENJOY!

I was more concerned with getting exactly the equipment I wanted than what color it was, but I ended up with a silver Corvette. After living with it for several months, I really like the color.

Please excuse the terrible picture quality, but I needed to take a quick picture. I didn't have a chance to find a better spot:

Get the color you like, period. You'll regret any other choice. Regarding Machine Silver, I agree with the others here:
  • It's very common.
  • It doesn't stand out in a crowd.
  • It's not as visually "striking" as other colors.

Having said that, here are a few more thoughts:
  • It's very forgiving of dirt and dust.
  • Though I've found a way to prevent spiderwebs and swirls, if you get them they'll be tougher to see in silver than in any orther Corvette color.
  • After a wash and wax, Machine Silver positively glistens in sunlight. There's nothing drab about it.
  • It looks even better at dusk and after dark. As has already been said, it shows off the lines of the C6 beautifully.

Hopefully this will help you decide.

My C5 Coupe was silver and I loved the color... however Atomic Orange is the color I waited for. Tell your wife that riding shotgun in an Atomic Orange Corvette is sure to make her look 20 years younger... I promise http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...ion_edited.jpg

Trust me you will not be sorry

How can you be old when you're a "junior" member? I've got a silver/red vert, but then that was MY choice. Didn't receive the least bit of static from my wife. In fact, she accompanied me to the Museum when I/we took delivery. As previously stated, get the color YOU want otherwise you will not be happy. If your wife said you're too old for a Vette what would you do? Answer that question and you'll have the answer to your own question. You only go around once and you darn well better take advantage of it!

Let me chime in here, having been in the same boat.

I had an 04 LMB, and and 05 LMB. I like blue.

I got an 06 Silver this spring (great deal) and love it. It is SOOO much easier to keep clean, and always looks really slick.

HOWEVER, I do miss the dark blue, and have eyes for the Atomic Orange. I will be happy with my silver for years, but if i had an Office Depot "EASY BUTTON" i would go back to blue or get the orange.

Screw your age...get what gets your heart pumping, and has you looking back at it as you walk away from your car in a parking lot.

Try this approach.... "Honey, if you truly loved me then it wouldnt matter which color ...now would it?."

Works like a charm!

When I bought my C5 I wanted either Navy Blue Metallic or Electron Blue but had to seetle for something else (Torch Red) because the wife doesn't like blue. But last night I showed her the new 08 Jetstream Blue coupe we just got a the dealership and she absolutely fell in love with it. We have toyed around with the idea of trading our 01 for a new 08 and would have chosen Atomic Orange for sure, but that just might have changed. I might be getting the blue Vette I've always wanted. Silver is nice, but AO and JSB are much less common and look absolutely fantasic.

Decisions like picking the colour of a new Vette is an amazing decision to make. I feel fortunate to even be in the position of doing so. No matter how you look at it, it is a win-win situation!

Enjoy!
