Default NPP Tips

I had Corsa's on my '05 C6. I've seen the tips on the standard exhaust on the 2008 and was very disappointed. I'd decided I would have to replace the tips or work very hard polishing the tips to make them nearly as nice as the Corsa's.

Car and Driver's article mentions a different tip on the NPP exhaust and the pics look really nice, I've ordered the NPP. Does anyone have any pics of these tips? Do you know if they are polished SS?

Thanks

My understanding is that they are the same tips as the Z06 (diameter, finish, etc.).

I am quite sure they are polished SS. I polished them pretty good the weekend I got the car home (I have to polish my wheels on a regular basis). They seem to come out pretty good to me. I'd say they look as good as the B&B's have had before.

Not the same diameter as the Z06. The Z06 has 3" tips, the NPP for the C6 has 2.5" tips...

Modshack is correct in his post below... Should pay more atttention to my typing, and my memory!!!

Correct - the inlet pipes on the other side ar 2.5" vs 3.0 on the Z06. But the outlet tips are the same. There was some confusion on this matter before the car began production.

I bought this kit from Pipedreams here on the forum.

I have stock tips. Mine didn't turn out quite as good as Corsas... yet. But close. I worked on them for about 1/2 hour last weekend and made a lot of progress, nearly perfect but not 100% yet. I'll give it another go this weekend. The kit includes the stainless rouge and buff wheel. Kind of pricey but it is doing a good job.

If I get a '08 or '09, I am going to take my '07 Corsa's off and put them
on the new car and not bother with the NPP option. No offense to any, but I dont like the look of the being able to see those butterfly valves in the pics and also seen first hand at the dealer. Not to mention, I am sure the Corsa Sports add 6 horses too, now that the NPP claims 6hp. I will say while I love my Corsa's, I dont like the CORSA lettering on my tips either.

I went with Corsa's because I didn't like 4" tips like most aftermarket systems had. Corsa's are 3 1/2".

Is the NPP option similar to the A&A mod that was popular on the C5??? Of course only with the valves?? I ask because I did the A&A mod on my 99 for about $70 dollars back in 2001. http://www.teamterrier.com/Mike/Exhaust/Exhaust.html

It inserts a by-pass tube and gets exhaust before it enters the muffler (on one tip per side). Many claim it was one of the best and cheapest exhaust mods ever? Could this be were GM got its idea from??? I liked it.

Tom, I don't know where GM got the idea, but I can tell you that Mercruiser offered an option for boats going back probably 15 years ago, or even a little more called "Silent Choice". It works almost exactly like the NPP. A valve open and closes - either sending exhaust straight out the back, or down through the outdrives.

Tom,

In the case of the NPP exhaust the by-pass actually takes place inside the muffler housing. the valve is at the base of the tip and the backpressure forces the exhaust gas out the side of the inner most pipe, around a channel and out the outter most tip.

While the execution is more complicated or sophisticated (depending on your point of view) it appears to me the results are exactly the same. And I'm guessing they sound very similar too.

It would be nice to get a C5 with Andy's exhaust mod side by side with a a NPP C6. Of course with Andy's mod the exhaust wasn't changable (it was always open).

Thanks for the info.

Default What to use?

I have found two really good products for aluminum and stainless steel. I use Mother metal polish or even better semi-chrome. You won't be able to find semi-chrome at an auto supply store but at a motorcycle shop. This product has been around for 35 years, how long have I been riding Harleys, and is great. With a little work, aluminum or SS will look like chrome.

I have a base C6 2007 and found a NPP exhaust for a C6 2008. Is this exhaust compatible or is there a difference between the models 2007 and 2008.

Thank you for your support.

The NPP exhaust for 2008 will fit non-NPP cars from 2005-2008. The NPP (or Z06 bi-mode exhaust) for 2009 will only fit on 2009 and 2010 cars.

Is that because of the change to the X type crossover midpipe?
