When my car sits in the garage, it fires right up. When it sits out in the sun all day (99 degrees), it will not start. Volts are 11.8 according to DIC. It says service column lock. When I put a battery jump box on it, it does not help. Is there a dead cell in the battery? Dealer said battery tested fine, so they replaced a column lock module or something. Has anyone experienced this. Can someone help?
I would check the battery connections. Remove them and make sure they are clean. Replace and tighten them. How old is the battery? If it's several years old it could need to be replaced. 11.8 on the DIC is a standing reading. The real test is to put a volt meter on the battery while it is being started. The steering lock message comes up sometimes when the battery is low. Other times it has been replaced and the the problem is fixed but it usually is the battery.
Just read the above post and I would replace the battery.
Concensus seems to be the battery life is about 2 yrs. on an 05. If you got 30 months then you were on borrowed time.
GM OEM batteries last me about 2 years in Texas summers. Winters here are no problem for batteries, but summers are hard. A new battery will probably solve your problem. If you are unsure about it, you could get a second opinion on the battery - take it to Autozone or other auto parts store and have them put it on their tester.
Your issue should be covered under warranty,so get a new battery for free. Some 05's had the column lock issue, too, that plagued the c5's.They did away with column lock in 06.

Your symptoms are not the typical DBS symptoms.
and not just for OEM batteries....with hot Arizona temperatures I figure any battery is good for maybe 2 or 3 years at best. I've got 28 months on my OEM battery in my 2005 MN6 and I've never had a problem. I just fired the car up today after it sat for the past 12 days...no problem. I do, however, fully expect to be replacing the battery at some point soon. Batteries are maintenance items.
