Isn't there a lever you can pull to open the door if the battery dies? I am prety sure there is. Secondly, I would go get a new battery asap.

Personnally, I would have reached down by the driver seat, at floor level and lifed the latch. It is there for just that type of situation and yes, there is one on the passenger side as well.

What indications? Any messages on the DIC? Did you try the emergency release to the left of your seat on the floor?

Yes there is an emergency door release. First off, you're not "trapped." Look for the door release on the floor between the drivers seat and the door.

As to the problem itself...hopefully it was just a 'glitch' and it won't happen again. You might want to check the battery and connections or even put a code reader on the car (I believe AutoZone will do this for free if you don't have a code reader). I doubt you threw a code but if you did...let the dealership know.

If the problem itself happens again, take your car to the dealership ASAP. If it doesn't happen again, I'd have the dealership make note of the incident the next time you take the car in. At least that way they'll have some record of it.

Good luck and let us know if a cause is found.

In a panic situation like yours, you probably did feel trapped. When everything is dead like you described it, you probably weren't thinking completely clearly and after a few minutes you probably would have remembered the Emergency release latch.

Wifey had a similar episode when the battery in her Explorer went dead at the grocery store. She stood outside her vehicle for 15 - 20 minutes wondering how she would get in with the remote not working. It took someone coming up and saying "Hey put the key in the keyhole" before she was able to get in.

Some day all the computers in the world are gonna rise up and kill us all.
