My NAV screen is showing areas of light and dark such as the top center and right is showing brighter than the rest of the screen. Brightness and Contrast functions seem to have little impact. Appears the same day or night. Any thoughts on making the screen brightness smooth or constant across the display? '07 3LT Z51 Coupe.
well, you can't Deguass an LCD, it not affected by magnetic fields. Not sure what would be causing something like that, unless the protective film over the top was damaged or something. I'd say go see a dealer.

Sounds like there could be a problem with the LCD panel.

The entire surface of an LCD is backlit from behind by a light source (CCFL light) and the LCD blocks out the light that is not needed. Backlight bleeding occurs when this light is not 100% blocked allowing some light to "bleed" through the LCD causing spots of lighter areas on a dark or black background. Unfortunately, almost all LCDs suffer at least a small amount of backlight bleed because the opacity of LCD panels is not enough to block all light, though it only causes problems if it can be easily detected by the human eye.
Fixing Backlight Bleed
In general, there is no definite fix for backlight bleeding

Thanks for the ideas. I already knew it really cannot be deguassed since its digital and not a tube anyway, but the effect I see on the screen is similar to that of a tube in the old days. I know there are on-board diagnostics in there and I know how to get to them, but don't wish to make a mess of things inside either without knowing what will happen for example execuiting a "hard reset" of the NAV. I'll stop by the dealer and show them and play with the contrast and brightness some more just in case.
