Here are my thoughts on this subject. I haven't done much with these on the C6 but on the C5 I tried just about all that were available. What I found was that there really wasn't a dime's worth of difference in any of them, including the so called "cold air" units vs. the under hood units. They all provided more hp in the same range.
I'm sure I'm going to get something and my criteria is that it be easy to install and preferably just barely used so I can get a good price.
There is no doubt cooler air is better. The more you can reduce the IAT temps the less timing is pulled and the more power you make. From previous experience, the biggest hurdle can be getting cool air to the filter inlet. For me the vette-Air was the perfect solution. From there I added a Halltech with demonstrated HP increases (see current dyno's over in Tech), then I designed a Cold air box to insulate my "system" from hot engine and radiator temps. i gotta say it works like a champ. a buddy has a 04 zo6 with a vararam and loves it, however, I have seen on the forum that vararam's quality is somewhat questionable. I just got a 07 vert and need to begin upgrades. Intake and I think Corsa sport exhaust.
I have to throw my .02 in for the BPP.I absolutely love this unit,it is very well made and the car runs well with it.My patented"Butt Dyno" confirms the additional power and especially the general overall increase in drivability at all rpm levels.Lots of good cai units out there-make a list of your personal choices, close your eyes, and pick one,as I suspect like many the increases from all the best units are probably very close.
I have an 07 LMB A6 w/ 3500 miles on it. I was thinking about adding a Vortex Air Rammer CAI system. It costs about $600 and they claim 40+ more HP. I've never had the ride dyno'd yet either--- Do think it is worth the extra $$ when they have similar products out there for $350-$400 ? I know quality and price do not necessarily go hand in hand Your comments are well apprieciated Thanks
