I started my vette this morning and got traction control light and engine trouble alarms at the same time.Power was also reduced.I drove back home and shut the car off. When I restarted it the traction control alarm reset but I still had check engine light.I drove to work and called Onstar do dianostics on it.They said it was an electronic fuel problem.I read in the manual that it could be the gas cap so I retightened that.I have not driven it yet to see if the trouble is still there. Is there anything else I can check before I take it to the dealership and have them look at it?? Thanks Joe

I'm impressed the dealership could diagnose the problem over the phone without even looking at the car. I once had a check gas cap warning....I found the 'trick' to the gas cap is to screw it on as loosely as possible. Don't try to screw the gas cap down tight like you do with other cars (I never saw a check gas cap warning again).
You could put a code reader on the car to see what the CEL is about....see what fault codes may be there. If you don't have a code reader I hear AutoZone will do this for you at no charge.
Thanks for the replies guys.Wayne, Onstar was who told me it was an electronic fuel system problem.I am going to take for a ride at lunch and see if it clears. Thanks again Joe
Be patient. I had a senior moment last spring and didn't put the gas cap on correctly the last time I filled up. I was told by my service advisor that it will take 50 cycles before the trouble code clears. Of course you can get the dealership to clear it sooner for you. Otherwise it might take 50 starts on the engine before it clears.
Check engine light did not clear. The car seems to be running good ,can I damage it by running the car for a few days or should I take it in?
As long as its not running rough or the Check engine lite is flashing, you are not going to do any damage, why not call your dealership, and see if you can roll by and have them scan it. Onstar is too general when talking to customers and won't really give a detailed discription of the code. I think they will tell you to check the gas cap if its suspected though. Once you get the code, then you can come up with a game plan to fix it.
Went by the dealership and the sales rep. started the car to get all the information and no check engine light. It reset when he started it!I did not get the codes checked as I saw no reason to.
Thanks everyone for the help,Joe
Just a follow up,I had check engine light and traction control light both come on again.I took the car to the dealership and they kept it all day. They said the ECM was the problem but they are backordered and don't know when it will get here. The codes were reset and it was fine until this morning when the same codes came in again.Has anyone else had an ECM problem with their 2008?It seems odd that they would be backordered if were not significant problems occuring. Thanks!
