Default Tailgating rant

Sorry, but sitting here with cup of coffee and decided to “vent” a little.

I am so tired of being forced to change lanes because of someone tailgating me. It doesn’t matter if I’m doing the speed limit,or 5, 10, 20 or more over the limit. The racing challenges don’t bother me because it is easy to ignore them. Not so easy to ignore the idiot up my tail pipes. Occasionally, the tailgater will actually change lanes with me. Not a problem with my other vehicles.

Well, I feel better now. And it’s time to get up for another cup of coffee.

Everyone have a great day!

It really is a problem here as well on every outing.
Also do not know why GM made the rear view mirror show everything extra close.
I have to double check the A-Hole in the back using the side view mirror
to see if they really are that close, & they are.

Yup, happens to me all the time. Cost me a 98mph ticket about 6 months ago. Very frustrating. I've even thought about hooking up a rear camera to a recorder, then turning the evidence over to a policeman friend, but he said don't bother. The law would do nothing!

Unless the laws have changed, I remember tailgating was illegal! Usually associated with road rage. I guess the police would get involved if someone gets rear ended or run off the road?

Solution: Just let go of the gas and your speed will drop - the tailgater will be gone pretty fast as he will be frustrated and just overtake you.

When that doesn't work, I pull off and let them go. Life's too short to spend it in conflict with idiots.

I've started slowing down when someone starts to tail me... 55mph on a 75mph highway at times.. it works.. the sad thing is they will slow down with me and then go around after they've followed me for a couple miles at 55 and have the nerve to look at me like I'm the idiot..

It does seem to happen more in the Vette. But I normally do what savewave does; slow down and let them go around.

Maybe they're Nascar fans and just want to draft you? Imagine getting pulled over by a L.E.O. and explaining that you weren't racing the guy driving on your bumper in the minivan!

sometimes i get the feeling that their mentality is to just want to follow you close because they want to speed and follow a fast car??????????

Be nice if you can rig up a canon that would come up out of the back, and fire a big blank. That should teach em!

Yesterday morning I had a young gal in a SUV that would NOT back off. I tapped the brakes and finally slowed to 10 MPH - she did not move. When she final passed me, after I changed lanes, she shot me the bird!

I wish I was a cop for the minute - "Put their *** in jail". There is no respect for other peoples property or safety!!!

Now, I feel better...............

Yahoos everywhere. I live up north in MI and after Labor Day things should really quiet down. Turns out it's the locals who drive like idiots.
I've noticed at least here it is the young drivers that tail gate. Like you say- right up your exhaust. I never speed up to try to distance myself from them but will slowly slow down and they'll usually pass or back off.

Move to the Chicago area. We don't have tailgaters here.

In this wonderful socialist state it's illegal to exceed the speed limit as elsewhere. Now follow this carefully....but....if you are going the speed limit in the fast lane and someone is behind you who wants to go faster you MUST get over!!!!!!

Otherwise you are guilty of impeding traffic! Now, tailgating is illegal too in this worker's utopia. So who gets the ticket if a crazed soccer mom is tailgating you at 55 in a 55? Hmmmmm? Well, you do of course if you are driving the vette. Vettes always get the tickets.

I always just signal and get over. If it's a commercial truck, van, or car with company markings I take note and call a complaint to the firm. If it's a big truck that's really close I open my window and show em my cell phone. My goodness you should see their speed drop. They get the point really quick that you will call the mounties.

Who will probably then ticket you for driving a vette.

Cynical. you bet. And I get tailgated whether in my Grand Cherokee Hemi or vette ---- and both of em are faster than most cars on the road.

ps. if you shoot em the bird, slow down, tap the brakes, hit the brakes or anything of the sort when you are being tailgated you are guilty of some kind of road rage or 'endangering' offense. Neat eh?

Bottom line is that a high percentage of drivers are fools plain and simple. If it's not a trucker in a hurry it's a soccer mom in a hurry, or a self important young besuited businessman or woman in a hurry or some **** in what he/she thinks is a fast car out to prove something to ya.......

patience is the only remedy for all this since if you take any action other than signaling and moving over you too, my friend, will be a lawbreaker too.

The vette is probably too low to do this, but mounting an aircraft landing light somehow under the rear bumper would get the tailgater's attention when you turned it on! I'm sure this would be illegal and do not encourage doing this , but if one could.....Think of it as helping a tailgater "see the light" of their ways!
