Are you using the visor mount or the mirror mount? From the pics, it appears the visor mount puts the detector above the bottom of the mirror, so I am confused how this could happen. This post is about the Voztech visor mount, and if yours is mounted like this picture, it would be extremely strange that the LEDs on the bottom of the mirror would hit the detector. Maybe a reflection of the light back up to the detector, maybe off a billet or chrome shifter or something lying around in the console area?

I understand all that Rick. It does look like it is designed to function as you say, but it would not fit so I reveresed the mounting plate so it *would* fit.

I replied to your email describing this issue a couple days ago but I never heard back from you.

There the problem lies... and probably is one of two things:

1.) My V1 is new so Valentine Research may have changed the width of the slot since your bracket is too wide to insert.

2.) Your bracket is abnormally wide due to a defect in production by your supplier.

In any case, a file and a little bit of metal shavings later and I was able to get the Vettmods visor bracket to insert as intended.

Now, the problem of the detector shaking non-stop. It's bad enough to interfere with easily reading the alerts. It never shook like this when I was using the suction cups. I guess I'll shove some sort of padding in between the bracket and the windshield frame and see if it helps.

Anyone else experience this shaking and how did you remedy it?

Not sure if this changed on 08s but my 08 does not have the little orange light on the bottom of the mirror (like my c5 did), its actually located on the same part of the visor as you mount the bracket too (passanger side) so the radar sits right under it and is in its path of light.

Wow, I didn't know GM changed that, I wonder why. Maybe if it is on the mirror, each person adjusts it differently so the lights never light up what they are supposed to. Strange.

Just a different take on mounting the V1... I've have 3 of them all mounted the same way in different vehicles. Easy and FREE... I use 2 small dabs of clear silicone, stick the factory suction cups to the windshield and I'm done. Been using this set up for 5 years and never a problem with it coming lose. When I want to take it off just slide off and mount stays put. No damage to anything.... the nice part is I never have to take my eyes off the road to see the arrows.......

As long as any excess cord can be stuffed up in the header without issue, I think I'll take you up on your combo offer.

THANKS!

if you use this bracket on the driver's side, as the OP and i did, all you need is the 8" invisicord and you still have plenty of slack. it's a lot neater looking without all that extra cord.

Yeah, something is definitely up because, if anything, the tab should be narrower than the V1 clip. It is thicker however. I am not sure why your email was not answered, I will look into that. Also, the velcro patch installed on the bottom of the tab should reduce the movement, which is a result of the gap in the plastic adapter plate and the V1. If you are seeing the bracket itself move there is another issue. Please send another email to support@vettemods.com and I will get back to you so we can get your issues resolved. I will be back in town Friday afternoon.

Thanks,
Rick

With regards to the shaking, mine did the same thing. I bought a rubber stopper from the hardware store and wedged it between the two parts of the bracket, not between the bracket and the windshield but wedged in the bracket itself. It no longer shakes.

I should also say in fairness, that I do think the vettemods visor bracket is a well made product that serves to offer a viable alternative to suction cups and stick-on mirror mounts and I was probably a bit harsh in my evaluation due to frustration. My apologies to Rick.

The shaking is due to the thin plastic adapter from V1 and not the design of the vettemods bracket. Too bad we can't get a more rigid version of that adapter.

Nice write-up w/ great pics.

Been using this bracket for my 8500 X50 for 6 months & it's perfect, bullet proof.

I really liked the mirror mount type (from GLT?) but the damned tape worked loose over time due to vibration(s).
That in-turn caused the detector to bounce!!
Ultimately the detector would turn itself off after hitting a few bumps after the detector's ON/OFF button hit the bottom of the mirror.
Great concept the mirror mount, just not very well thought-out especially in the area of balance.

And I think the satin black powdercoating on them is great!!! But then again, I do the coating for him!

A little more metal will alleviate the shaking.. Mine is solid as a rock, but I have a lot more time in this than the cost of the Vettemod bracket. Possibly some Velco or a pad may help you..

Hi Rick,

Does the mounting location on the passenger side (V1 detector) block the sun visor? I need to use my sun shade...

Thanks!

I went to Home Depot and found a 6pc pack of Plastic Shims made by Shepherd Hardware (#9435) for $1.99:

2" L x 1 1/4" W x 3/8" H and just the right size to use in combination with the 2 Velcro squares supplied with the Vettmods bracket. I'm using one wedged up between the bracket and the windshield frame and another between the top of the V1 and the inside of the plastic mounting bracket. Works well.
