I have HREs and they now have chrome outers to make keeping them clean better. And i have a rim that has a curb rash and they can change just the damaged part.I was very happy with there service. And its not very common to see a lot of others with these rims because of the cost.
Rennsport imports carbon fiber wheels from the UK - they are beauitful, but they are more than $2k/wheel.
Then, there is IMSA. There is a post in here about a European C6 with a set of IMSA wheels on it - these are made for the Lambo, and it requires a hub conversion to central mounting instead of bolts. That set up is more than $3k/wheel, not including labor and shipping.
I said hard pressed, not impossible. Also I would hardly conceder carbon fiber in the same class as the alloy wheels that are the theme of this thread. That being said I agree that carbon fiber wheels would be eye catching.
I also had problems with HRE wheels. They got spots, tarnish or something on them the first month I had them. Could never get them looking good again, even when taking to a detailer. They blew me off when I called and said "spots happen". After some time on the track at least 2 or the rims cracked and leaked air. I got a set of CCW later, much less expensive and nice looking.
I am selling a set of HREs for the C5, Its my understanding that the offset is close enough to fit the C6.
You can see the offset is good enough to fit a C6 Z06 brakes.
Let me know if your interested. They run about 1150 per rim and asking 3k for all of them. They are all 18s though 18x9.5 and 18x11.
I went with Forgeline. Great wheels and service. Would have went with CCW, but Forgeline has a big selection of finishes. CCW service is very good and I have heard nothing but good things about them.
I hesitate to even post this, because I know others will refute my comments, -BUT- here goes...
I bought HRE's 3-piece mesh style wheels 2nd-hand for a Porsche, but I would NEVER waste money on these things again. They were heavy, they CRACKED completely through the widest part of 2 spokes (NOT provoked by hitting huge potholes) and the polished lips tarnish like crazy, needing constant care. On top of everything, the original owner got such HORRIBLE customer service from HRE America that he sold them to me for 1/4th of their value just to be rid of them.
The guy I sold the Porsche to (with these wheels) just told me that he TOSSED them, cause the cracking got so bad driving on the rough Connecticut roads he uses that he no longer trusts them. These wheels ONLY had 25k road miles on them - NO racing at all.
Disclaimer = This was MY experience. If others have had good luck with HRE's, that's cool too.
I can remember back in my C5 days right here on the forum some guys were upset with these wheels. But HRE did their utmost to solve any problems with forum members, and everybody seemd happy with the results. I cannot remember seeing any other complaints till this one. They are without a doubt the best looking wheels out there IMHO.
But I am happy with stock chevy wheels.
I have HRE. 545R 19/20 tubbed, and have had no problems with these wheels.
