If your pride and joy is damaged or wrecked (especially if it's fairly new), how many end up trading or selling it before you would have normally? Some just feel that it'll never be the same.

Depends on the damage. Body work, not to much of a big deal if it's repaired right. That still doesn't make you feel good through. A hard hit that would put the front tire in the passenger's seat, I wouldn't want the car anymore. Wouldn't want it after flood damage either. To many things can happen later.
After a wreck, little nit-noid things started to bother me, like the repaired driver's-side door sounded a little different when closing and other little squeaks and rattles. Wifey thought it was all in my head...and it probably was, but it bugged me enough that I traded my beloved Escalade EXT in for my first Vette back in 04...and as they say...the rest is history.
I had exactly that happen to an RX7 several years ago that was really my pride and joy. It was heavily modded, and nine years after I bought it, it still "ruled". In nine years, I put less than 55,000 miles on it. I had an aftermarket turbo, suspension, wheels/tires, stereo, custom interior mods etc.
It go run into, and even though a dealer I knew well fixed it, it was never the same. The damage was cosmetic, but went pretty deep, and even though it was mechanically sound, there were constant reminders of what happened.
I agree with Tom (Byrne) above. If the damage is pretty superficial and the repairs were done right, I'd probably be okay with it. But somehow, I suspect even then I might find a reason to trade it earlier than usual.
I used to feel that if million dollar race cars could be repaired and look brand new again, then it would be ok with me. Or, that was my justification for my pride and joy BMW 2002 getting wrecked back in '76. Of course having endlless funds, as sponsors do, can do wonders with a wrecked racecar. And over the last two or three decades now, I've had a few more scrapes.
I don't really feel that way anymore. If possible, I'd start working on trading and starting fresh again. Probably more psychological than anything else, but then again, I don't really trust the know how or the quality of the majority of the shops today.
Curious to know how many Vette owners who have had wrecks, quickly got rid of them.

Traded my 03 about 6 months after a major wreck. Loved that car and swore that she was a keeper, but despite a first class restoration job, it just never seemed the same.
It would depend on the nature and extent of the damage. I've seen 'repaired' cars that IMO are every bit as good as the original....in some cases perhaps a little better.
I wouldn't necessarily off a car just because it suffered some minor damage (or even more major damage that had been repaired to perfection). If the car looks and runs flawlessly, what's the problem?
I lost a brake line going into T1. Even though I replaced all the calipers and lines, but I was not able to attack the corners the same way after that. With the newer car, I hope to have some more of my mojo back. Of course I will check on the lines more often and will replace it every year or two.
I guess it all depends on the severity of the damage. I've had minor paintwork done on my C6 and it was three months old at the time. It came out fine and nobody can tell the difference, not even me.
Got a 2007 last August was hit by a lady in September of last year. Kept the car a year then traded for a 2008. The car was repaired nicely since it was cosmetic had a panel replaced but in my mind it just wasn't the same plus it was a good excuse to change colors!
Hit a 5 inch pipe in South Florida (with no way to avoid it 0 it was in traffic and the pipe fell off the truck in front of me) with my Black Z06 ('04). Put a 5 inch gash in the oil pan - debris hit the windshield (I can go on) - traded it within the next year and a half. In a lot of ways wished I hadn't, but, it always "felt" funny to drive it after that.
