I've been driving Corvettes since 1991, I've never had a front plate on any of them.

Yes and you haven't crossed paths with the Texas DPS yet either. A lot of the young DPS troopers are passionate about upholding all of the traffic laws on the books. High probability of either a citation or a warning from DPS if they see a car without a front plate.

Having said that, 7 years so far without a front plate nor a warning regarding lack of such. Then again I rarely ever encounter DPS in my daily commutes in the greater Houston area. The local LEOs simply don't care about this provision in the law.

Ohio requires them, I hate them. Previously had a Mustang Cobra that didn't have a front plate on it either. In the past 10 years of having at least one car that didn't have a front plate, I've been pulled over one time by a local Sherriff who (IMHO) was just profiling (young guy+hot car = he wanted to make sure all was on the up-n-up). He told me that the reason he pulled me over was becasue the car didn't have a front plate, ran my license, checked for insurance, told me to put the plate on, and let me go. I of course didn't and never heard anything about it again.

Around here, I can count on one hand the number of C6 that run the front plate. For that matter, there aren't very many Boxters, 911's or Vipers that have the front plates either.

Top Flight Reproductions front plate bracket for me.

I'm in the vast minority in TX having a front plate mounted.

(the avatar pic is from the day I got the C6, only had a paper rear tag)

No plate here. For the most part I think in IA you are safe until you get stopped for something else, then they go looking for any and all violations, otherwise they don't seem to bother. Most Vettes in IA do not have the plate.
The fine is about $60. So, When I get tired of paying the fines I may change my mind. The plate is hanging on my wall in the basement.

I haven't run with a front plate since I bought my C6 in 10/2004. I've been pulled over once, for a license and registration check, and the officer never even looked at the front of the car.

I keep the front plate in a rear storage bin and, if cited, I will have to figure out which is the least offensive way of mounting it. For now though, it stays in storage.

It's required. It's on there. I'm not above the law.

No big deal.

LOL....if I were in VA, I'd have the front plate on too! What's the fine there for it.....$87,000 + $2.00 court costs? Lien on your first born?

Default Nfp

Before i had a vette i used to love mustangs, had 6 of them and never had a front plate on any. this is my 8th vette and never had a front plate.
Even on my H2's that i currently own, no front plate either.
Been pulled over a billion times, ticketed a million but never for a no front plate.
TX law requires you to have one.

Fellow Vette Owners:
A friend and I discussed this very issue the other day. We decided that it was probably better to go with the front plate....no reason to draw excess attention to an existing LEO magnet.

I went with the removeable plate bracket from Top Flight Reproductions, by the way. The color matched brackets make the best of an unfortunate law. We have been lobbying our state legislator to change the "front plate required" law. While there are some good tax savings for the state, the law enforcement folks love the idea of being able to take a picture of your law breaking vehicle and sending you the bill.

No plate for me either. Someone told me that they can't pull you over for not having the front plate. I don't think it is true but I don't know for sure. I havn't run a front plate since Feb of 01 when I bought my Mustang and it didn't have a front plate bracket on it and I didn't want to scratch the plate. Never had a problem so far. But I usually park in private parking.

If the C6 design team hadn't screwed up with the front of this car being the only production Corvette with no provision for a front plate, front plate state drivers wouldn't need to have this discussion.

The options suck: Don't run the plate and risk a ticket (pretty pathetic when you think about it...that's what I do in CT, BTW), use the hideous factory afterthought mount, or use one of several at best mediocre looking commercially available or DIY compromises.

NFP.....if I'm headed where I suspect the LEO's might be "busters", it goes up onto the left side of the dashboard.
