Result: Considerably reduced clunking in the rear- occassional or intermittent when you go on/off throttle quickly. But this is about a 95% improvement.

Now I need to address the Torque management issue with the A6 tranny pretty much holding back the shifts at the low end first to second.
Your dealership is wrong! Amsoil is an approved rear differential fluid. Don't believe anyone would know the difference in any event.........

I bet your dealership will also tell you that you have to use MOBIL 1 for the engine oil just because the filler cap says MOBIL 1. If a aftermarket product meets or exceeds GM requirements, you are good to go. And AMSOIL does. I will be using their ATF for the tranny and motor oils for the engine in the near future. The owners manual and/or service manuals will give you the generic requirements for the fluids. You are not limited to Mr BadWrench fluids. If GM is so proud of their fluids, why don't they ever tell us who makes them?? Why?? Because they are sourced out to the lowest bidder meeting their minimum specs. ExxonMobil must have an agreement with GM to get the Mobil One product name on the oil filler cap. There are several products superior to Mobil One including AMSOIL, Royal Purple, etc.

I find it amazing how many forum members switched the differential fluid to Amsoil and the rear end chatter disappeared. For what it's costing GM to do all the warranty work on this problem you'd think someone might figure out Amsoil might be the solution. Perhaps they're under some contact to use the Bad Wrench fluids from the factory, but certainly not at dealerships. I now have ZERO differential noise and it's been a couple of months. I might add mine is not a DD and spends a lot of time sitting in the garage. I believe cars that sit around a lot exacerbate the noise problem simply from disuse. I'm thinking of changing to Amsoil for my MN6 tranny........

A guy in the office is switching to AMSOIL Severe Gear at my recommendation. His 07 vert with over 10k miles is making the usual diff noises. I may need to help him do the change since he is a first time vette owner and has not developed the DIY ethic yet on this vette.

hmmm...Just wondering why the dealer hit you with a $40.00 labor charge. Seems to me you saved the service department from a world-of-hurt by not having to spend his mechanics time and re-visits trying to solve the problem the GM-way especially since you picked up the tab for the fluids.

Nothing that a tune with a HP tuner with Software Version 2.2 cant permanently cure! Just bought one myself and easy as pie disabling TM upshifts and power downshifts on the C6 A6.

Default Chatter fix

I also had the chatter problem on my 06 A6 at about 5,000 miles. I took it to the dealer for the diff. fluid and additive fix, that worked for about 10,000 miles but the problem came back worse than before,so I got amsoil and the additive and things have been great so far. I only have 2,500 miles on the new fluid. We'll see how long this lasts.

Hi Fox !! I just got my vette out of the dealer. I took it in again for the same problem you and everyone else is having with the differential. They told me that around mid november this year, GM is coming out with a repair kit to take care of this problem.

I have to be honest... I'd much rather simply change the differential fluid then have a dealer taking apart the rear end! GM has had this problem for awhile and I'll be very surprised if there is any kit coming out to fix the problem. Keep us posted but in the mean time the Amsoil has completely solved the noise problem on my car....

Default Tuesday

I had the clutches replaced Tuesday at a local Chevy dealer and they say they did three others before mine and it worked out.

We shall now see if the noise comes back.

That's interesting, especially since the latest differential chatter TSB, as of April 2007, does not call for changing the clutch packs. Seems that very little attention is paid to the TSBs... either that, or the dealer simply chooses to follow a path that leads to the most amount of work, and thus most amount of profit.

The previouis TSB, as of 12/06, stated to change the clutch packs if the fluid swap did not work, but the latest TSB as of 4/07 no longer calls for a clutch pack swap.

We already know too that a good amount of those who have had their clutch packs changed have experienced the chatter again... I guess GM finally figured out that changing the clutch packs was not the answer.

So far it seems that using 8 ounces of friction modifier additive as opposed to the originally specified 4 ounces, when doing an oil swap, is perhaps the best solution so far.

Regarding Amsoil, my guess is that the formula they use is simply heavy with "friction modifier", nice and slick... which is why it is yielding good results.

I really don't think so. If there is a kit, it's a set of replacement clutch packs. Many of the previous replacements don't sound like they have been the long term solution. Dealers are famous for dis-information. You have nothing to lose by trying AMSOIL.
