My fellow Vette friends I think I have the answer to the rear end chatter. Since I had my Vette I have had a problem with rear end noise as many forum members have had. I have changed rear end fluid with additives twice and still had the noise. I was not to worried about something going bad for I know it is just the characteristics of the design it's just that the noise was a major nuisance. Some other members mentioned using AMSOIL as a substitude for the GM oil and additive. I ordered AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 SYNTHETIC EP LUBRICANT 2QTS and SLIP LOCK DIFFERENTIAL ADDITIVE 4OZ had the dealer install the slip lock first and than the gear oil until it came out the fill hole.
From the moment I drove away from the dealership I noticed a difference between now and past changes when leaving the dealer. I now have over 1k on the Amsoil and no noise what so ever. A hummm I had while driving at freeway speed and always assumed was the tires also went away. Amsoil 1qt $11.85..........$23.70
Slip Lock 4oz 7.20
S/H 7.50
Tax 2.70
Total 41.10
The dealer's Mr BadWrench fluid change with GM additive only worked for a short while on my Z last spring. I changed to AMSOIL + AMSOIL additive two weeks ago and saw (heard) an immediate difference. Very quiet now on my DD. Only time will tell if this is a long term or permanent solution. I would highly recommend trying AMSOIL before I would have the dealer do a clutch pack replacement.
I think I'll try this, too. Warranty replacement of oil helped a year the first time and 4 months the second. I'm not anxious for anybody to have to tear into the dif to replace clutches , so lets try this. Would sure be easier. Is there a how-to faq on this for us DIY guys?

I had the dealer do the service bulletin procedure a year ago and the noise went away for several months, but it came back. I just had the service bulletin procedure done again (the current bulletin calls for twice as much additive as the old one) and it's quiet again. We'll see if it comes back.
I did it myself as well with Amsoil and Slip Lock. Problem not solved nor even close. This is NOT a knock on Amsoil. My guess is that my problem is actually something else. Unfortunately for me I spent money and time on something that didn't help the issue. I have zero idea what the issue is and I have spent hours on it.
FWIW, I swapped my fluid about 4k miles ago, used standard GM gear oil (not the synthetic), and just one 4oz bottle of the GM limited slip additive (this was before the latest TSB came out), and the rear went from being very noisy to dead quiet... has been quiet ever since, over 4k miles now. But, who knows how much longer I've got until the chatter returns... we'll see.
I didn't go the Aimsol route becuase the dealership said it would void the warranty- not anauthorized GM part or fluid. Nonetheless I did the diff fluid change, added 2 of the sliplock additive and did figure eights untill I was throughly dizzy.
Result: Considerably reduced clunking in the rear- occassional or intermittent when you go on/off throttle quickly. But this is about a 95% improvement.
Now I need to address the Torque management issue with the A6 tranny pretty much holding back the shifts at the low end first to second.
2006 with 35,000 miles, so warranty will soon be over, had GM do fluid change four times now, and chatter is back again. Make about 5,000 to 6,000 miles on a service bulletin figure eight change out. Will I loose the rear end clutches, someday, and have to pay for a new unit?
