My friend of mine has a 'full-race' Doug Rippie modified C6 (C5R big block, etc.) with a wing. The car can be driven on the street but it is generally trailered to the track where it flat flies. It is a race car...not a street car. He has a genuine need for a wing....form follows function (he even mounted small 'airlets' on the front fenders for futher aerodynamics).
For a car driven primarily on the street, a wing would serve no practical function IMO. You just don't do 160+ on public roads. I drive in road course events 2-3 days a month but I drive much more often on the streets. I have a hopped-up street car that I like to race...it's not a full blown race car. Maybe if I mod my car to the extent my friend did his and until such time as I make my car a dedicated track car, I would not contemplate putting a wing on it. IMO it's just not something one does to a street car.
Why the hate...a wing looks appropriate and functional on the track but not on a street car.
Wings are ugly. Am I allowed to hate what I think is ugly? I think so. Doesn't mean my opinion is any more valid than yours, just means that I'm allowed to hate what I hate. There, I said it
Hate? Most certainly NOT!!!!!! I enjoy wing watching almost as much as old Dukes of Hazzard reruns, that round and round "racing" , and pro wraslin.....all are a hoot and a half.
I sometimes even take photos of the little civics with three foot high three piece wings. LOL......I mean these things just crack me up! A close second behind wings would be big letters "Corvette" on the windshield! Throw in some garish stripes and maybe some underbody illumination? Now you're talkin'!
A wing on a full on race car is one thing. A wing on a street only car is exactly what it is: Juvenile exhibitionism. Or, for simplicity sake....just plain stupid.
In addition, while these outlandish wings are funny on little Hondas, they are a cryin' shame on street drivin vettes.
now all this is just my opinion. If you want a big wing on your C6 go right ahead. However, don't expect acceptance and don't get pissed when people laugh. Remember, they are entitled to their opinion and preferences just like you.

Why all the haters of people who have an opinion? I can see the negative on people coming in unasked to post negative thoughts, but in a thread where opinions are sought, what's the problem?
Just because form follows function, it does not mean that forum follows function. Folks are simply expressing their opinion on the wing and over the years it has become obvious here that the vast majority of members don't care for the wing. In everyday driving a rear wing will do nothing for performance, you simply will not sustain the speed to have it benefit the downforce. If you like the looks, who cares what everyone else thinks.
I lived in the era of the "sleeper". The coolest car looked like a stripped family car, but all kinds of tricks up their hoods. As gov. regulations took over, cars became more show and no go. Wings are anti-sleeper, so not to my personal taste. If you like them get two. Pictures are good. Stay safe.
Forget about what they're getting now.
When these came out (yes, I was around then) you couldn't give these cars away. They sat and sat on the lots. After a year, dealers were giving them away.
Ugly then. Ugly now.

He mostly drives his car at the track. I would say 90 percent of the time it has race rubber on and at WOT. First day at the track he picked up 2 seconds a lap, results may vary with horsepower differences.
I can picture the owner of the car, with his white hair and huge smile. With the full aero package and the 427 singing at about 4500 rpm, going down the highway. WIth either the radio off or listening to talk radio.

But worth a bunch of money today!!!
Well over 6 figures.
