I use "L" and run with the volume down so I don't hear it. The unit is just above eye level under the driver's sun shade. That is enough warning for me. I may shut off the "x" mode.

Just a question: I'm not close to my instruction book----what is it when a "J" comes out on the screen of the V1?
Thanks, not trying to jack the thread.
Answer: found it on PDF: "alert terminated--not radar". very interesting.
I was told by someone it meant "junk", other radar detectors emit a signal sometimes and you may pick it up, once it realizes this. it responds with J

Also, POP causes a lot of false KA and in turn more J's.
