08 Keyfob problem
They ordered my replacement fob 3 mos ago. They now have it and I'll take the car to them next week for programming.
Gene,
Is the programming procedure different for the '08 fobs vs. the previous years? I want to make sure this dealer knows the diff if there is one?
I don't believe the programming procedure is different at all. You can view the procedure(s) by downloading the owners manuals on the front page of my site.

So here's the problem. I got a new fob that is number two. When I follow the programming instructions for an additional fob, it wants number 3 and never programs the fob.
Do I have to do the 'program them all'? Is there a risk since my fob 1 was already programmed?
What to do, what to do.

1. The vehicle must be off.
2. Have the recognized and new, unrecognized
transmitters on your person.
3. Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehicle
key into the key cylinder located above the license
plate. See Hatch on page 2-14 for more information
on the key cylinder.
4. Open the trunk.
5. Turn the key five times within five seconds.
6. The DIC will display READY FOR FOB #X, where
X can be 2, 3 or 4.
7. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in the
glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons
facing towards the passenger’s side.
8. Once the transmitter is programmed, a beep will
sound. The DIC will display READY FOR #X, where
X can be 3 or 4, or MAXIMUM NUMBER OF FOBS
LEARNED.
9. Press the Acc. button (ignition switch).

Wow, thanks for catching this. I mis-read what he was saying. If the first thing you see is it asking for fob #3 then Al is absolutely correct. You need to find out what happened to your other fob.
If you your fob is a #2 however, you may have a problem. The car will program fob #'s 1 and 3 as 1 and #'s 2 and 4 as 2. I'm not sure what happens if you try to put a #2 fob in the #3 position.

I know there used to be a 2, but surely there is a way to get a new 2!

I tried the instructions listed earlier in the post....but, because they already programmed my new fob to be #3, the system will only let me add a new fob...not erase them all and reprogram. I called GM last night and they told me that the only way to resolve the issue, in my case, is to use a dealer scan tool...So, it looks like I am stuck going back to the dealer.

I did the complete reprogram, thinking I could redo number 1 and add number 2. followed the 30 minute long count down.
Finally it got to insert Fob 1.
Did that.
Nothing. No change in the message. Nothing. After 5-10 minutes, the display went dark and I have NO WORKING FOBS.
I'm trying again, but I have a car stuck in the garage without a working FOB!!!!
Any suggestions?

I'm going to try to program the new fob 2 as fob 1. At least then I'll have a working fob.
I'll wait until we move to fix the other fob. The dealer is worthless.

That SHOULD work, right?
It doesn't. I am so screwed and the car is supposed to go on the moving van in two days.

Yes, Bill Heard

Compliments to the dealership.
