"An ambient light is located in the passenger sun visor
clip. This light stays on while driving to keep the
cabin from being too dark."
1. How many of you knew of this thing's existence?
2. How many of you knew of its existence without first seeing this note in the manual, then going to check it out?
Most of my driving so far has taken place in full daylight, so I never noticed the "beam" from it. But I read this in the manual, then went too take a look after dark. Not too bright, but still, pretty cool and interesting. I love these kinds of little details.
Noticed it the first time that I had the car out at night. My guess would be that those who have the manual tranny would have picked up on it quicker.
I noticed it when I glanced down at night to grab the shifter **** and noticed an orange glow on the shifter area and with my hand figured out where it was coming from. It is pretty cool.
Color coordinated for those guys with DSOM or AO cars.
Congratulations, You get a blue ribbon for finding it in the manual. I can assure most won't find it in the manual as most don't/won't read the manual. Most owners find it visually first and then post a thread to ask what it is.
In the military 'red' lighting or artificial night lighting was used to more rapidly achieve dark adaptation when ambient lighting was turned off. It had obvious advantages but made it virtually impossible to discern any color coded charts or maps.
Corvette's use of this subdued night lighting is no doubt derived from the early military applications and besides....it looks kind of cool.
my 89' does the same thing,,, has small bulb on the underneath side of the rear view mirror that stays on the whole time,, with a switch near them for cabin lights off and on,,rj

Those manuals are like instructions, on other items, most people only read them, after they're "in over their heads" with problem(s).
The OnStar in-cabin pinhole video camera requires a certain amount of illumination in order to function properly during non-daylight hours.
The visor mounted LED illuminator provides just enough light for adequate video capture, yet not be so bright to adversely impact the driver's night vision.
a Manual... why would I have one of those my car is an automatic with those steering wheel shifter thingy's.....
I read the manual, but, I got more information from my automatic about all those "thingy's" that are in my car especally around the cockpit where I sit sometimes.
