Default C6

Is there any way to determine which C6's are from which year (06 -07 - 08) externally? I know that the C4's had different louvers in the side panels along with different tail light shapes 90 vs 91.

If it has a wart, it's an 05. I'm talking about the XM radio antenna.

The only sure way would be by checking the VIN through the windshield.

05 has a "black box" on the roof, XM radio reciever. The 06 and up has the little GM "chicklet" on the bottom quarter panels. The 08 has new style wheels. Chrome wheels were not an option until 06. But most c6 are pretty identical from the outside....

05 no "GM" logo
07 Radio controls on steering wheel
08 different wheels

The above is not always true, but true in most cases.

You could sneek up and look through the windows at the steering wheel audio controls (07/08), the center console coloring (07/08),open the engine hood and determine whether (LS2/LS3), rear fender 'chicklets (06/07) and the VIN # date...but I wouldn't want to be caught buy the owners...most are more protective over their Vettes than their children!!

Also, if it has butterfly valves in the inner two exhaust tips it is the NPP dula mode exhaust option, which first became available in 08.

With the modifications some do it can be difficult to tell the difference between a C6 and a Z06 let alone what year C6 it is. You got some clues but it's tough to tell at a quick glance.

Good analogy, but not all '05s have the XM antenna "wart." You had to order the car with the XM option. Mine did not have it. See "My Corvette Photos" under my Avatar.

Looks like several told him about the 05s. Could be that he just forgot to mention the 05s. Do you have a problem with the 05s?

The title of the thread says C6. The 05 is a C6.

  • If it's Magnetic Red, Precision Red, or Millenium Yellow, it's a 2005.
  • If it's Jetstream Blue or Crystal Red, it's a 2008.
  • If it has an XM wart on the hoop (coupe) or trunk lid (convertible), it's a 2005.
  • If it has a 4-spoke steering wheel, it's a 2005.
  • If it has a 3-spoke steering wheel with audio buttons on the right spoke and dark gray plastic trim on the center console, it's a 2007.
  • If it has glossy black center console trim with a carbon fiber look, it's a 2008.
  • If it has butterfly valves in the inner exhaust tips and it's not a Z06, it's a 2008.
  • If it has heated seats but no audio buttons on the steering wheel, it's a 2006.
  • If it doesn't have chrome trim on the A/C temperature control *****, it's a 2005.

The problem is that in many cases, the converses of these statements are not true. For example, there are many 2005s that aren't Magnetic Red, Precision Red, or Millenium Yellow.

One thing nice about the C6 (and the C5s for that matter) is that it IS so hard to tell them apart, especially for the 99.9% of the people that aren't Vette Nuts like us. My 2005 looks the same as a 2006/7/8 to the general public... No real reason to get a new one every year to stay "current", like you had to in the 1970s/80s when something visible changed every year.

No, my 2005s are polished and "thick", although I haven't really compared them to the 2006+. All I know is Pipedream's polish kit shines them up real purdy...

Outside of the Z51 option, the Z06, and the LS3, what are the mechanical differences in the 05-08 C6s?
