Default Help! Mechanical Question

Ok here is what happen. I was driving my vette today and got down on it. All of the sudden my belts started squeaking really bad. When I checked under the hood it look like some kind of fluid on the belt. The belt that goes to the ac compressor was hanging off and it look like some purple spray on some of the parts below. Any ideas on what might have happen?

I can only assume you sprung an A/C compressor leak and that colored fluid is the dye used for tracing refrigerant leaks...

Isn't the AC dye clear, then changes to color under ultraviolet light?

I'm guessing the compressor leaked, maybe seized and broke the belt. I'm not sure if the compressor oil is clear or color. We need someone with more experience. Good luck though.

The coolant is pinkish purple though...Could be a toasted water pump..

if your car is a 2005, you may have the crank bolt issue. check the search section and see if you vin range is included. it may not have been corrected when new. check your oil level in the engine. if low DO NOT DRIVE IT! get it checked out by a compentent vette tech.

I Agree!! Also if there is any warranty left, top off all fluids before taking it in.

How hard were you driving it?

Certainly worth checking but if the serpentine belt is intact (not shredded and spinning true) I don't think it's a crank pulley bolt issue. If the crank pulley was 'walking' the serpentine belt would probably go first and then cause damage to the accessory belt.

In any event, I'd have the car flat-bedded to the dealership. Good luck!

OK here is an update. I put the A/C belt back on three times and each time it slung off when I started the car. I can turn the A/C and tensioner pulley both by hand so neither of them has locked up. The only thing I can think of is pulley misalignment. Also I still can not figure out what that purple fluid is and where it came from. I went ahead and took the A/C belt completely off and test drove the car. It is run strong and all of my pressure and temperature gauges are good and of of my fluid levels are good also.
