I just went to their site. After reading their programming instructions and trying to understantd all about their conversion module I can convincingly and safely say that Lear SUCKS, and GM SUCKS for putting that kinda crap in my 50K Tahoe, and in my 07 Z
Damn...I just bought a new 2008 Z06 and cannot get it's universal remote to work with my garage door. I have the 3 LED verson which I guess is Lear. My place is a rental, so no way am I going to modify the garage door opener. My other cars have the Home Link setup with a single LED and work perfectly with both fixed and rolling codes. I can't believe I just spent this kind of money on a new car and it's not compatible with my garage door like my other cars. WTF???
After reading about all the problems people were having programming the Lear Car2U system, I was concerned.
But I found it to be easier to program on our Lift Master doors and our daughter's Craftsman door than the Homelink systems on our other cars.
Just read the instructions in your Owner's Manual and have someone on a ladder ready to push the learn button on your garage door opener when your're ready to program. .
I got the System to work on my Wyane Dalton door opener in the lower garage first. It was easy because it has the teach button on the opener. Later I got it to work on the Genie ( about 14 years old ) in the upper garage. It took me three tried to get it to work. I noticed that when you enter the code (L, M, R) you have to press the button firmly for about 1/2 sec and pause for about 1/2 sec between the buttons. Once you enter the codes, you must push the three buttons NO LONGER than 1 second and then push and hold the button that you want to use. If you hold the three buttons in for more than 1 second, it seem to abort the programming...
In other words, the timming of the button presses seems to be touchy.....
i played with mine on and off for a YEAR. went to their web site and still couldn't understand why i could not program it because everything said my door opener was "compatable". so, i called them and in about 1 minute she walked me through the process and BAM it works. she said that sometimes you have to program it BACKWARDS but that's how she got mine to work. call them.
i have posted before that you must release all 3 buttons at the same instant or it will not lock on to the opener. i used a small piece of wood to push and release all 3 buttons together and after 2 days of trying all the suggestion from lear my way worked.
I took me about 7 attempts to program mine over one weekend (I just kept getting more and more Pi$$ed off evrytime it didn't work) It's a very senstive process and if everything isn't done in the proper order, it won't work. I don't know how old you garage door opener is but mine is 15 years old and it programmed properly, finally.....it takes patients.

i have posted how to get it to work without buying and additional parts.
I'm sure people with certain types of openers are having issues but I just programmed mine in less then 3 minutes. The 3 minutes consisted of 1) reading the instructions, 2) getting my key fob 3) following the instructions, 4)watching my garage door open and shut. It was easier then the homelink system in my old BMW.
okay, so I have a new 08 with the lear remote. i traded in an 05 caddy with the homelink. the caddy could be programmed to open my community's security gate. the lear unit is a no go. lear tried calling the POA management to have recievers added tot he gate openers and got rejected. there is nothing that lear can do to make my remote work with the security gate.
GM may have saved a half penny per unit by switching, but dealing with unhappy customers who are pissed about the lear units will end up biting them in the ***.
I HATE the new LEAR remotes!

SAME HERE!!!! Lear says hit the "Learn" button on the community gate opener [which is locked and the gate people said "DON'T YOU DARE" ] .
So I will have to get the gate people out to read off the dip switch settings for me and it is a $100 charge....
Course, Lear says "Their unit is much better because it is more secure" IT IS NOT SECURE IF I CAN'T USE IT!!!!!!!!!
turns out that the company that services the community gate openers told lear that the add-on reciever was not compatible with the gate openers.
i can't program the Universal (yeah right, universal my foot) Remote in the car to open the community gate.
Chevy has gone from a unit (Homelink) that worked with every opener and was easy as hell to program to one (Lear) that works with some/most openers without modification, a few more with some modification, and not at all with the remainder. To make matters worse, the programming of the unit requires you to note DIP switch positions (in some cases) and program them into the frickin' thing.
I am just dumbfounded by the stupidity of the decision to change suppliers. There was nothing wrong with the Homelink units. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Big frickin' DIP Switched idiots.

Review pages 127 - 129 of your owners manual. I had to program mine like this using the positions of the dip switches/OFF ON NEUTRAL
LEFT LED = ON
MIDDLE LED = NEUTRAL
RIGHT LED = OFF
It worked...good luck
I read the manual. There are not DIP switches in my clip on remote, but it is not a "smart" opener because I was able to program the Homelink units in all of my other cars just fine. The problem is that the Lear unit is incapable of learning the correct signal to send. You have to program it in (DIP switches) OR have the opener send it to the remote. I cannot do either, so I am stuck. I am not alone in my frustration either...
