Optima Yellow Top - you'll never again have a battery problem!
Yeah, right. Two months ago, I bought an optima yellow top and installed it in my '05 6 speed. I parked it for two weeks over Christmas (SE Louisiana) and when I came back the battery was dead. I know for sure that I put the car in reverse.
I'd say your battery was simply at the end of its useful life. When was the last time you drove the car? What are your driving habits, do you drive it for at least a half hour when you take it out? How often do you drive it?
There is a lot more to battery life than most take in to account. While others have reported better results the getting to know DVD that came with your 2005 Corvette recommends that you use a trickle charger if the car will routinely sit longer than 27 days. There are so many parasitic drains on the C6 battery that even starting it and driving it short durations every day can contribute more to draining the battery than to charging it. Just because all DBS cases are dead batteries it doesn't mean that all dead batteries are DBS. You don't have to leave anything on to contribute to the death of a battery over time.
Frankly, I'd say replace your battery and get back to driving and enjoying. The OEM battery is not robust enough to handle a deep discharge. If it was dead, you have likely shortened the useful life even further and can expect another dead battery in your future.
...just went oustide to a dead battery myself. I was doing some work yesterday with the radio on AND it was blasted cold last night. I have the charger on it now, but are you saying that the "deep discharge" may have long lasting effects?
...i'd hate to get stranded somewhere with this problem...
This past couple weeks the temperature has been in the single digits here in the St Louis area. A couple times this past week my '05 was slow to turn over but always started until today. Just got "click, click, click." Tried to find a replacement. Contacted AutoZone, Sears, Costco, Sams Club, Advance Auto Parts and O'Reillys. Only Sears and O'Reillys listed one for a C6. The standard Series 86 battery didn't have enough CCA. O'Reillys was $10 cheaper than Sears so I went there. Their price was $84.99, but my wife asked if they gave a military discount (I'm retired Air Force). They said sure, and sold it to me for $65.99 plus tax. Good Deal! I was also glad that the radio kept it's code and all the memory settings were retained.
I purchased my (wife's) C6 in January 05. The bettery went dead in January 06. The next battery went dead in January 07. The next battery went dead in early March 08. That battey went dead in late March 08. Outside temperature and lenght of time sitting have not been a factor. Ironically, the Vette could sit for weeks in a cold temperature and start right up. Then, the battery would go dead a few days after a weekend of driving in nice weather.
I've always been able to easily jump start the Vette with my Suburban, or by leaving the trickle charger connected over night.
The dealer reset the remote door lock module after researching a bulletin. Keeping my fingers crossed!
I bought my C6 in Dec 06, and the battery died and it could not be jumped, in Dec 07. The dealership said it was a computer problem, and replaced the "mother-board". (Mind you, I am in Iraq, and my baby is in Jesup, GA, so these details, are very scant, and are filtered through the ears of my not-so-mechanically-inclined wife). Anyway, she told me the total warrantee bill with ~$10K!! Is that possible? I will get the skibby when I return in 2-months (yeh!), but it seems to me there is definitely a "trickle" of electrons leaking out somewhere with this car! Hopefully the new electronics have addressed the issue.
Has anyone else had this extensive of a "repair", in conjunction with a dead battery?
At least you got 3 years out of your battery. Mine was tested and failed a short time later and would not hold a charge.
Optima only way for me. I found out on this forum about stock corvette batterys. Did not want another stock battery.

After 13 incidences of DBS 9 mos ago we finally replaced the door modules and the BCM. None since!
I am glad I found this discussion about dead battery.
I got the same situation in my 05, left 3 months (Chicago cold weather) and jumped it let it run for 30 min and it was OK. After 3 weeks, completely dead, not even the 3 clicks or any noise...I couldn’t even open the door.....
What kind of battery do you guys recommend? I am trying to go to the dealer this week…by the way, is there any trick with taking out the old one? I couldn’t use any of my tools…
Went to take my daughter out in my 05 m6 today. all the lights worked but nothing happened when I pushed the start button. Could not even jump start it. Granted I did not use it much this winter but I kept a trickle charger off and on for most of the winter. I am the second owner and noticed in the paperwork that this is the second battery.
Would the lights still work and not even a click with the ignition button?
I got it working.....new Delco battery.....
I also changed the battery on the remote FOBS device and placed that the other way..... once I changed that to the right posotion, it worked nice....
