from everything I've read, the only laser interceptor that worked was the prototype..

I live in California where laser jammers are illegal. While I was commenting on the topic in general, it is true the OP may reside in one of the states where laser jammers are not illegal yet.
And I stand corrected about the federal law

I'm pretty sure the website is wrong. Radar is illegal to jam as it falls under a federal statute. I don't know of any California statutes pertaining to laser jamming. Regardless, radar and laser simply confirm speed. They aren't needed for a ticket.
