Default my pride is hurt

Well. I bid farewell to my vette today ..Dont know what the future holds, but it sure stings seeing your dream car being taken away on stretcher with pool of blood (oil) where it used to lie. I love my car but I feel like telling them to keep the damn thing and put me in an 08. Wonder what the possibility of that is. Oh well ... It is what it is

I had this problem, but I noticed the noise and had it at the dealership before any catastrophic damage. In most cases, there is no significant damage and it can be repaired.

But, fan-belts flying around the engine compartment at high speed can do a number on hoses and really cause a mess.

Good Luck!

My August 2005 had the same problem during a dyno tune. I ended up buying a forged rebuild of my block to 408 CID. I did not want to mess around with a stock engine (warranty) , and the car was supercharged.

How long have you owned the car? you said you havent even made the 1st payment... if you bought it from a dealer it should be under some sort of warranty...at least 30 days and 3000 miles ...i am betting they knew about the problem but only found out after they owned the car and since it was the dealerships car they would have to fix it on their dime and it wouldnt be a warranty issue untill it was sold to you and you bring it back....i bet they sold it to you knowing it, all the time saying to themselves, let it roll and when it comes back we'll fix it....if they are treating it as a warranty issue when they say you are out of warranty then you know they knew something was up...i have seen it happen all the time in the 6 years I sold Vettes...used car manangers do what they have to to keep the money flowing into their department and dont want it to be charged to them if the dealership has to pay for it before they sell it...hence selling it to you

I would think the black box in the car would know.

Plus, you've shared on a very public internet that Corey from Tulsa with an 05 vette was driving his car hard when the crank pulley came loose. Wouldn't be too hard for your local dealer to put 2 and 2 together.

Careful what you share on the forum...

YEP! Likely some user error there as well. Good luck with your repair. Sounds like you have deep pockets. Or atleast a big limit on your VISA.... priceless!

Why would it matter if he was driving it hard, as long as he wasn't exceeding the redline, the engine shouldn't blow up

I agree the engine shouldn't break, but we live in an age where some dealer's will reject a warranty claim for a failed connecting rod just because an aftermarket header was bolted on prior to the failure.

The tape will tell. If it was just hard, no big deal. If it was passed the red line..... oooops... priceless

Default Imo

IMO it shouldnt matter that i was pushing the car a little. I wasnt over revving the engine or anything. Simply using a little of the cars potential.. What is the purpose of buying a 50k car with 400+hp only never to get the tach above 3k rpm. This is completely irrevelant imo.Car has never been tracked etc. This is a mechanical defect that should be fixed by the dealer no matter what. Good times

I don't really car how you drive your car, it doesn't matter to me. Nor do I car how much $$ people pay for a car that is capable of exceeding most speed limits by well over 100 miles an hour, when doing so is illegal. I'm not here to debate how cars are used or why sports cars are built. Hell I've got several of them so you I'm not on a soapbox here.

Dealers will find any excuse to not honor a warranty, and in this case if you car is already out of warranty, the fact that your dealer looks to be playing nice suggests you may want to hold on to that dealer.

I agree so far so good. Only time will tell.. Just a little frustrating when you pay so much for a car, you expect certain things out of it. Hell I had a 1994 Z28 camaro that I raced all the time and after 105kmiles I only had to replace clutch 1 time and just had a very small rear seal leak. I havent even raced this car. Wish I could say you pay to play but I havent even played yet. lol Guess thats life

Your expectations were too high

I've got a car (non-vette) that has spent over 300 days at the dealer in the 7.5 years I've owned it. In 36,000 or so miles: Convertible top fluid went bad several times, control arm bushings replaced several times, wheel bearings failed, tilt/telescoping motor failed, timing chain tensioners failing, nikasil engine lining failed requiring engine replacement.

All of those items failed due to poor design, and that car when new was quite pricey.

Set your expectations too high and you'll always be disappointed, set them sufficiently low and sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised. This goes for cars, car dealers, etc.

In your case you bought a used car with a TBD (to us at least) history, maybe it was thrashed by a previous owner, maybe not. But most importantly it appears to fall into a range of VINs that had a recall for that very problem. That recall may keep you from having to spend any $$ to fix the problem.

Beyond that though, these cars are complex, with lots of gadgets to go bad.

Cars, like people, have more problems the more complex they get.

05, 06, or 07 all LS2s had an unkeyed harmonic dampener that's subject to unscrewing itself. Many, probably most, won't be driven hard enough for this to happen, but a good number will (or already have). There's only one real fix, key the dampener so it can't turn on the crank snout. That worked for 80,000,000 previous generation small blocks. It works for LS2 engines too.

So, does the LS3 have a keyed dampener?
