A fellow club member had this happen to his 05 C6 with 8K on the clock. The dealer fixed the problem but had to get some special equipment to do the fix. He hasn't had any problems after it was fixed. I would think GM would stand behind this since it was/is a know problem.
AHAHAHAAHAH I just got a call from the service dept. The are waiting for parts now The good part is he is again saying that it appears to be minor(the damage) Still not for sure yet until they put everything together. Sounds like you have had experience with the no parts in stock prob Anyways I again asked him if they were treating it as warranty work and his reply was yes I said I appreciated it and he said " well you bought the car from us so we want to try and take care of you". That is exactly what I wanted to here. I feel like in some ways dealers give vette owners some preferencial treatment because of the large sum of money we drop.. Sounds bad and I hate to think of it like that. Sure would hope they would do that for anyone who had a prob like mine. Anyways so far so good
Good to hear positive news about a dealership. Maybe it will start a trend, maybe not. Post the dealer name, for once it is good news and not bad about one.
The dealer name is Jim Glover Chevrolet. Cant say the buying experience was great but so far they have taken care of my car problem and i am greatful for that. I just overall have had bad experiences at dealers when trading a car in. The last 2 times i went to buy a car, it just so happened that at that exact time someone else was there to buy the same car(yeah right). Second time it happened I told them I didnt give a s*** and that I was here with the money and I didnt want to even here about another person. I just find that to be highly unlikely to happen with the last 2 cars I have bought. I was prepared for that crap the second time though. I think this is a sales ploy to get you into a price bidding war. Anyone else heard of this or has it happened to them?
I drive it like its meant to be driven... Gettin on it a little
Well, no doubt soon you'll have your vette back and be once again
driving it like its meant to be driven....except this time, hopefully, the
smoke will be coming from the tires, instead of the engine!!

My answer is to be prepared. If you choose to be gullible, they (dealers) will grab the opportunity (and charge you to fix this KNOWN issue). There is alot to be said for a blank look followed by "you're kidding. right?" The early 2005's crank bolt issue is WELL documented. DON'T give the dealer credit for doing what should be done ANYWAY. This issue (crank bolt) was discussed, ad nauseum, 2 YEARS ago. These early 2005's are now appearing on the used car market, unfixed (probably because they weren't driven hard), and dealers are acting like they are doing you a favor, which is WRONG. I give dealers the benefit of the doubt all the time, but in this case, this is a WELL documented issue and should be handled (fixed) EVERY time with no foolishness.
What I said and what I meant may be different ... let me try it this way: they make more money off of the warranty work than they do from the sale of the car. Sound better?
Ok, I picked up the rental car(choice was chevy cobalt or silverado) on 2/11/08. I picked cobalt what the hell.. thought I might as well get something with some good gas mileage. To my surprise I am only getting like 27-28mpg. Guess those litttle 4 bangers dont like being driven like vettes. Anyways I just got a call from the dealer and they said my car was ready for pickup. They said they had to take the whole front end off to replace what they needed to. SOB I had my wife talked into letting me buy aftermarket cam and since the front end was already off having them slap that in there. By the time I called the dealer they had already put the car back together. SIGH Oh well.. Thats probably a sign that they would have jacked it up. Someday mods someday SIGH. Anyways, im going to pick my baby up today and Ill let everyone know exactly what was replaced. Everything has been free from the get go so hopefully my car will run great. thanks
Corey.
That is great news!! Sounds like the dealer might have a customer for life now! And yes my local dealer tried the same crap with me. "You better take it now because so and so up the street said he would be back tonight". I knew it was bologna but they did have the exact car I wanted so I drove it home.

I bought my first Corvette from Jim Glover. I have always had good experiences with them in service. My second one they could not match the price on, so I bought it somewhere else.
Ok... Here is the end of the story I hope. Picked up the car and it runs great They cleaned all the oil up, washed the car and supplied rental for free. They replaced the seal(front i assume), crank bolt, harmonic balancer, 2 belts, and oil. So far all is well and Im glad I have my Vette back. There was a slight issue after I got it back where the window didnt roll back up after you close the door. Windows rolled up and down fine but didnt go back up automatically when door is closed. Called them back and they scheduled me to come back in on Wednesday and get another rental car. Few hours later it started working just fine...hmmmm. Going to keep my appointment in case it starts happening again. So overall I had a very good experience with the service dept. I would like to thank everyone for support and input. Forum has once again proved to be full of great people. Thanks again to everyone. If I could have only gotten that cam in there party time
If they disconnected the battery (which I assume they would) the windows would have to be "indexed". Look in the your owners manual for future reference. Glad everything worked out well.
