Default No Cold Air

I've got a new 07 & it was 70 today in my area. My outside temp was showing 49. I turned on the air & it was blowing hot air. I read the manual & it says it won't blow cool air if the temp is 40 or below. Anyone have this trouble?

Thanks,
Bill

You probably didn't drive it long enough or far enough for the outside temperature sensor to update to the correct temperature.

If the outside temperature goes up, the displayed
temperature will not change until:
• The vehicle’s speed is above 10 mph (16 km/h) for
five minutes.
• The vehicle’s speed is above 32 mph (52 km/h) for
two and a half minutes.
These delays prevent false readings. If the temperature
goes down, the outside temperature will be shown
when you start the vehicle. If it has been turned off for
less than three hours, the temperature will be recalled
from the previous vehicle operation.
There is also an inside temperature sensor located to the
left of the ignition switch. The automatic climate control
system uses this sensor to receive information, so if you
block or cover it, the system will not function properly.

So you're saying that if I do local driving & I don't meet those numbers, my car won't cool down? That doesn't sound right!!!

Yes, You have to drive approx. 1.5 miles, The problem is that when the car is sitting the engine heat raises the temperature of the sensor. You have to move some air over it to get an accurate reading.

Given the fact that the outside temp read 49 deg on a warm day, I'm guessing the car had just been washed or gotten wet. The outside air temp sensor would then read low (not high) until it dries. The simple fix is to turn the inside set temperature lower than desired until the sensor dries, say to 60 deg.

I took the car for a long ride tonight & the outside temp did change to what it should be. But the AC is still blowing warm air. I guess I need to get it to the dealer.

I assume you pressed the "Auto" button?

Whatever you do, do NOT press the "snowflake" button on the A/C. That actually turns OFF the A/C and it will blow out warm air.

If you had the A/C on AUTO and you're sure you had the temps you wanted dialed in and it was still blowing warm air, you're probably right about the dealer being the next step.

Let us know what happens.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was explaining why it is a good idea to design a system that doesn't instantly respond to higher outside temperatures. The idea is that the sensor can easily be fooled into thinking the outside temperature is warmer than it really is so the car disregards higher temperatures until it has been driven a short distance to get airflow over the sensor.

There was nothing obviously wrong with the description the OP gave. The car does not respond to warmer temperatures but it does change to lower temperatures even if parked. Parked in an unheated garage it would be easy to get down to 49 this time of year and then go out into a real 70 degree day and still see 49 for a while few minutes. At 49 the A/C should still work so I would suspect the hot air was coming from the difference between the set desired temperature and the actual inside temperature. But if the outside reading gets below 40 you can turn the desired temperature as low as you want and the A/C will not run until it sees a temp higher than 40. I believe this is to protect the A/C compressor.
