I am interested in the answer since, if I get an 08 this thing is on my list of "removal mods".
the other items are:
1/ frcs
2/ underhood mat
3/ disconnect those three white onstar connectors and anything else that will come loose to further castrate that system. ( betcha they "harden" the connections in the 09 to make it tough to disconnect or mix it in with other systems and software to make it impossible to disable )
Lots of new owners can't wait to get louder exhausts but the mat, frcs, and now this new piece of junk all are designed to make the engine quieter. I don't want the engine quieter btw thank you very much .
The resonator looks to be either molded to it or super duper epoxied to it. The only way it is coming off is if you cut it off and then cap off the hole. It's real easy to take the entire air bridge off. Do so and feel from the inside and you'll see what I mean.
Someone on the Forum just recently said that his hood got really hot after he removed the hood blanket and he wouldn't recommend it.
Yeah I was that guy
I like free mods just like every other guy, but removing the hood blanket would be a big Even in weather below 40 my hood was getting very hot to the touch in certain areas. I removed both FRC and Hood blanket. It felt good to hear the engine more clearly though. I guess if you have an aftermarket hood with vents kinda like where the 05 vipers had the hood vents you would be ok.
needless to say I put them back on the day after.

It is part of a Tuned intake system. My bet is that the engine will not run correctly if you remove it. Corvette engineers worked many hours to design the car and systems. But If you think you are smarter, remove the system, dyno the car before and after, and please report your findings. Now, if you just want more noise,,,,,,, go for it.
google: Heimholtz Resonator. If you want to learn more about how air, and pressure waves, and the timing of the pressure waves can be used to tune an engine air intake
you could possibly switch the LS3 air intake with an LS7, ive heard they are interchangeable. A forum vendor did that with his test car and supposedly everything fit just right.
If you are referring to the box extending from the air intake bridge, it is used as a silencer for intake noise. In 2008, GM added this to silence the intake and allow the driver to hear the exhaust note, especially with the NPP option exhaust. People complained to GM that the oem exhaust was to quiet. GM responded with the intake silencer and NPP, and it works! Thanks GM for listening.
The stock LS3 air intake is a good unit, the only issue is the lack of cold air. However, a little modding will take care of that.

Pull the Onstar fuse and remove the antenna, Onstar sleeps with the fishes.
I swapped mine for a Z06 setup.Same thing without the silencer on it.The 08 system is what they use on the ZR1,that with some baffles for flow on it, so I figure if it can handle 638 HP it's good enough for me!

Removing the resonator won't hurt the engine performance but it will make the induction system nosier. Helmholtz Resonators are notch filters designed to reduce intake noise over a certain frequency range. When you remove it you might hear an annoying whistle or whine while accelerating.

You're correct as any aftermarket intake does away with that chunk of nonsense. I have a K&N cai and there is no whistle or whine but it sure does actually sound like a real engine in there now. I think it is ridiculous they put it on there in the first place, guess they thought a bunch of little girls would be buying the car and frightened of the scary engine, cause you know how people who by 430-436hp cars don't want to hear the engine that produces that hp.
