Sorry about the "blower" comment. The only Mustang Cobra I've ever looked at was new on a dealer showroom floor and it HAD a blower (Eaton) on it. Guess it must have been a Saleen or something........... who knows. Never had an interest in Fords.

He could easy have custom cams in that thing with stock lift and insane duration...and the class he runs in probably allows it.

I know a guy running a V6 firebird in eliminator class that has stock manifolds and a "stock motor" and runs low 13s at the 3300 weight. His cam qualifies as stock because of the lift...but it is a nasty nasty cam and the gearing and tranny almost drag bumper on each shift.

Massive gearing, a great transmission, tire, tuning, and suspension make for a VERY VERY fast car...but it would take a lot more than what a normal bolton car would ever be.

From what that website shows and how much other crap was done to the car yea. I think it is proven that he did it. But a "normal" cobra certainly couldn't.

There is tons of suspention, gearing, tires, and other work done to aid the overall low ET. You can tell there is no power in the car b/c of the trap. Barely 117 but running an 11.4 1/4 mile. Isn't the Z06 running 11.4 near 130? I think that shows that this Cobra is basically dead by the line. It isn't pulling from there. It is all about a super low 60' foot, getting out of the hole, and trying to hold on till the line

It takes 430 HP to run 118 MPH through the traps with a 3400 lb car. In a perfect world a car with that kind of HP in a good chaasis will run 11.12. Those 4' wheelstands aren't helping. Me thinks something is suspicious with the HP claim.

Don't forget he is running 4.56's you won't need that much HP with the TQ multiplication that hight but it is going to run out of juice up top and fast

Those gears use a lot of horse power. Lower gears give you a faster ET and less MPH in the 1/4. You then change the cam to move the power band up to replace the horsepower you utilized with the gears so that you now not only run a fast ET but also run a decent MPH.

In any event I had a 97 Cobra, the 99s had the better heads and this guys motor is far from stock. You also have to consider that his suspension is set up as drag car so the car is very efficent transfering weight to the rear tires and not at making fast turns.

Our Corvettes are not built for drag racing so there is a lot of room for suspension enhancements that can be made hook better...... However, that traction comes at a price ..... broken parts and lousy handling ..... so we can not have it both ways

No I don't own one just yet. I am waiting for the winter to end and I am more then likely purchasing a leftover 2008 when I hear what will or will not be in the 2009's

There were two C4's in my immediate family and I have owned a 1968 GTO 400ci convert and a 1997 Lt1 Z28 so I am no stranger to the drag strip vettes or american V8 power. Something just didn't make sense to me in all this.

Absolutely.

If a car is setup correctly it doesnt need a lot of power to make quick ETs.

I don't know about that 4 foot wheelstand, but that car is quite obviously prepped for NMRA Factory Stock.

Those cars are BUILT to go fast with very little horsepower. Traction, gearing and weight are the key.

I had my '98 Z28 in the high 11s with only 340 RWHP and that car was on a 17 inch drag radial with only minimal suspension modifications.

Just for reference...

this car:

Makes ~500whp.. and runs a 9.88@138

a proper drag setup and driving skills can do amazing things.
